Beloved Servant
Please pray for God to mend problems I caused for myself and others by recently being in a relationship I should never have been in. Pray that God would also mend problems caused by other previous relationships I never should have been in. Please also pray for God to totally put certain things and people that came into my life in the past few months (or rather that I allowed in) out of it. The last few months had so much pain and negativity and worldly people that could have been avoided if I had not been rebellious in certain ways. Please also pray for me as I continue to try to mend certain estranged relationships. This has been a difficult process for certain reasons. Thank you.

We thank you for your honest and humble confession and we join with you in seeking God's mercy and restoration. We hear your sorrow over recent relationships you should never have been in and over previous ones as well, and over the pain, negativity and worldly influences you allowed into your life through rebellion. We also hear your desire to see God mend what has been broken and to see estranged relationships healed, and we count it a good sign that you take responsibility instead of blaming others.

We want to lovingly speak truth to you because God calls rebellion sin and He calls us to turn from it. Scripture says rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft in 1 Samuel 15:23 and that whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy in Proverbs 28:13. If any of those relationships involved sexual intimacy outside of marriage, God calls that fornication, and if it involved someone married to another it is adultery, and we are commanded to flee sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 6:18. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman as God designed it, and any courtship should be with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, not simply a boyfriend or girlfriend or partner relationship. Scripture also warns us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers in 2 Corinthians 6:14 and that bad company corrupts good morals in 1 Corinthians 15:33, and that friendship with the world is hostility toward God in James 4:4. When we open our lives to worldly people and worldly ways, pain and confusion follow, but when we confess and repent God is faithful to forgive and to cleanse us.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only by His name that we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. To be saved we must believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord as taught in Romans 10:9. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus, repent of sin, and follow Him. If you confess your sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9.

We are encouraged that you want God to remove from your life the things and people that should not be there. God can create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us as prayed in Psalm 51:10 and we are urged not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds in Romans 12:2. That will mean making clear boundaries, turning away from tempting places and conversations, seeking fellowship with mature believers, and walking in daily obedience. For the estranged relationships you are trying to mend, we encourage you to continue with humility, patience and forgiveness. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men in Romans 12:18, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you in Ephesians 4:32. Some relationships may be restored quickly, others may take time, and some may not be restored if it would lead you back into sin, so we pray for wisdom to know the difference.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your mercy and grace over our dear one who has confessed rebellion and painful choices in relationships. Lord, forgive all sin, cleanse from fornication and all unrighteousness, and create a clean heart within. We ask You to mend the problems caused by recent and past relationships that should never have been, to bring healing where there has been hurt to self and to others, and to redeem what has been broken. We ask You to completely remove from this life every person and influence that does not belong, every worldly tie and temptation that was allowed in, and to guard the heart and mind from returning to them. Heal the wounds of the last few months, for You heal the broken in heart and bind up their wounds in Psalm 147:3, and restore the years that have been lost as You promise in Joel 2:25. Give wisdom, humility and perseverance in mending estranged relationships, help to speak truth in love, to ask forgiveness where needed and to extend forgiveness where wronged, and let Your will be done in each one. Lead into godly community, into purity, and into a courtship that honors You if it is Your will to bring a godly spouse, a marriage that honors You between a man and a woman for life. Strengthen to walk in obedience, to flee temptation, and to be transformed day by day. We ask all this in the saving and mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and only hope, Amen.

We hear the weight in what you shared, and we admire your honesty in naming where rebellion led you into relationships and connections that brought pain. It takes courage to ask God to mend what was broken and to be willing to turn a different direction.

One thing that often helps is to separate what is yours to do from what only God can do. You can make a clear decision to step away from harmful ties, and your emotions may need more time to catch up and find peace. In the same way, forgiveness is something you can offer before God in your own heart, while rebuilding trust with estranged loved ones is different, it takes willingness on both sides and happens slowly as love and trustworthiness are shown over time. Not every past connection is meant to be restored, some are meant to be gently and firmly closed.

A couple of steady next steps we have found helpful: make a simple, practical boundary list, remove contacts, unfollow, and avoid places that pull you back, and share that list with one trusted pastor or mature believer who can check in weekly. For the estranged relationships you hope to mend, consider one small, sincere outreach at a time without pressuring for a quick outcome, and let their response guide the pace.

We also encourage continued fellowship and wise counsel as you walk this out.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name, asking for Your mercy to mend what has been broken, for strength to walk away from what harms, for wisdom and patience in restoring what can be restored, and for Your quiet peace to guard their heart in the days ahead. Amen.

Your prayer has been brought before the Lord with thankfulness for the honesty with which you have spoken. It is a hopeful sign when the soul no longer excuses its rebellion but owns before God that it has chosen paths it should never have trodden, and now desires to be cleansed and set free from them.

There is a repentance that is of the flesh, a regret that is bitter for the consequences of sin, yet it does not give God glory. True repentance, that repentance unto life which is the work of the Holy Spirit, gives God glory by confessing that He is holy and just in all His ways, by abhorring sin because it has been committed against so good and glorious a Being, and by looking out of self to Christ and to Christ only for pardon. Such repentance is not a mere operation to be gotten through at the beginning of the spiritual life and then forgotten. Repentance lives as long as faith lives, and it yields works meet for repentance. It is practical and it lasts, for it purges the soul from dead works and at the same time, by faith, admits Christ to be the sole Master of the heart.

You have asked that God would mend what has been broken by your own hand and by former relationships that were not according to His holy will, and that He would put out of your life those persons and influences of these past few months that should never have been allowed entrance. This desire is itself evidence that the goodness of God is leading you to repentance. He does not merely drive the soul as a slave is driven with the whip, but He draws with cords of love, showing His mercy that you might turn from worldly company and vain entanglements with a burning indignation against sin itself.

We do not preach repentance as Moses preached it, nor as a preparation apart from Christ. We preach repentance and remission of sins in the name of Jesus, as His own gift. Where there is no true repentance there can be no remission, but where there is that godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of, there is full and free forgiveness through His finished work. Take heed not to put your repenting into the place of Christ. Your tears cannot wash away sin. Look to Him who alone can save, and let your repentance be that which weeps and abhors the past life because the love of Christ has pardoned it, and which avoids present sin because of the love of God who died for you.

Be encouraged by Peter, who fell by sudden temptation and by his own weakness, yet was not left among the siftings of Satan. The Lord prayed for him that his faith should not fail, and the Lord turned and looked upon him, and that look dissolved his heart in bitter, salutary, saving repentance. His restoration was speedy and it was sure, because Christ Himself secured it, and being restored he was charged again to strengthen his brethren. So the Lord is able to restore you, to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you, and to make your very grief a rainbow of tears for sin and hope in His mercy.

We pray for you now that the Lord would grant you that true repentance which gives Him glory, and with it the joyful assurance of remission in Christ. We pray that He would in His wisdom sever you wholly from those entanglements and worldly companionships that have brought pain and negativity, and keep your feet from returning to them. We pray that He would wash you and make you clean through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, by whom alone salvation is found, and establish you in that purity of heart and life which belongs to those who walk in His ways, remembering that marriage is His holy covenant of one man and one woman for life, and that all intimacy outside it is to be forsaken. And we pray for the estranged relationships you seek to mend, that God would give you grace, patience and wisdom in the process, to speak the truth in love, to seek reconciliation where it is right and possible, and to commit the outcome to Him who restores and heals according to His perfect will.

May the Lord keep you close to Himself, and may this season of sorrow become the beginning of a more steadfast walk, wherein faith and repentance abide together and Christ is all.
