We join you in bringing all of these heavy burdens before the Lord together in Jesus' name, and we thank you for sharing so openly with us. Your love for your ex and your concern for his soul, your love for your mother despite her abusive behavior, and your discernment about the spiritual darkness in your family show a heart that cares deeply and wants to see God glorified.
We first lift up your ex to the Lord. We pray for his salvation, for his health in the face of serious and life threatening problems, and for his deliverance from trauma and from dysfunctional patterns of behavior. Scripture tells us that the Lord is not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9, and that He can give a new heart and put a new spirit within, Ezekiel 36:26. We also know that God is the healer, for He says But I will restore health to you and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh, Jeremiah 30:17, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. We ask God to use even these health trials as a wake up call to draw him to Himself, to open his eyes to his need for Christ, and to bring him to true repentance and faith. You mentioned faith in Christ, and we rejoice in that, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. We pray also for his loved ones, that God would draw each of them to salvation and guard their wellbeing.
We also pray for you in your love for him. It is painful to love someone and know you cannot be together, but we commend your wisdom in recognizing that boundary. Scripture calls us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Corinthians 6:14, and calls us to pursue relationships that honor God with courtship that looks toward godly marriage between a man and a woman who both belong to Christ. If there was any sexual intimacy outside of marriage in that relationship, we gently call that what God calls it, fornication, and urge repentance and to Receive forgiveness through 1 John 1:9, walking now in purity. We pray God will heal your heart, guard you from returning to what would harm you spiritually, and if it is His will in the future, lead you to a godly husband who loves Christ and will love you as Christ loves the church. We ask God to give you peace and to cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7.
We lift up your mother and your family with you. To endure severe psychological and spiritual problems that result in abusive behavior is very difficult, and we pray God gives you and others patience, wisdom, and protection. We are to clothe ourselves with a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, Colossians 3:12, and to bear one another's burdens, Galatians 6:2, but we are also not called to enable sin or remain without boundaries. We are thankful you reached out to your pastor, for God has placed the church to help bear burdens and to bring loving correction, Matthew 18:15-17. We pray your church will come alongside you with counsel, support, and accountability for your mother.
We must also address with love and truth what you shared about the heavy presence of occult involvement on both sides of your family, even while professing to be Christian. Scripture is very clear that occult practices are detestable to God, There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh, Deuteronomy 18:10-12. This is spiritual warfare, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Ephesians 6:12. Those involved need to repent, renounce every occult practice, and turn fully to Christ for forgiveness and deliverance, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 2 Corinthians 10:4. We pray God will convict and deliver your mother and others in your family, and many around the world who are in the same state, bringing them out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Together we pray. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. We lift up this dear one's ex to You. Have mercy on him, Lord. Forgive his sins, save his soul, heal his body where You see fit according to Your will, heal his trauma and emotional wounds, and break the power of dysfunction in his life. Give him a true wake up call that leads to repentance and a new life in Christ. Save his loved ones as well and keep them in Your care. For our sister who prays, grant her healing, peace, and strength to walk in Your will, guarding her heart and trusting You for her future. We lift up her mother to You, Lord. You see the pain, the psychological and spiritual bondage, and the abusive behavior. Bring conviction, deliverance, healing, and repentance. Help her to renounce every occult involvement and to walk in truth. Give our sister patience, wisdom, and protection, and give her pastor and church wisdom to help her well. Deliver others in her family and many around the world who are bound in the same darkness. We ask for Your will to be done and for Your name to be glorified in every life mentioned. We pray all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.
We encourage you to continue steadfast in prayer, remaining in the Word, and staying closely connected to your church for support and accountability. Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective, James 5:16. God is near to those who are brokenhearted, Psalm 34:18, and He is able to work all things together for good for those who love Him, Romans 8:28. We are standing with you.
