Your earnest burden for your youngest daughter has been heard and we join you in bringing her before the throne of grace.
We understand the weight you carry as you watch her labour long hours in mercy to the sick, and then take to the road wearied and in darkness. The Lord who neither slumbers nor sleeps is her keeper. We pray that He will be her shield by day and by night, that He will give wisdom for every journey, and grant her rest and refreshment when her strength is spent. Troubles do not spring out of the dust, but the Lord Himself sits as a Refiner by the furnace, and even the weariness and the waiting He can use for good. May she know His preserving hand upon her going out and her coming in, and may He grant you peace as you entrust her to Him who is able to keep her from falling.
You mention fear of her former companion and the dark arts he claims to use. Hear the sure word of Scripture, He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. The power of darkness is a power to hide and to terrify, but it is a vanquished power. For those who are in Christ, there is a ransom found. God has said, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. That ransom is Christ Jesus Himself, and through His blood there is full deliverance from sin, from Satan, and from every evil work. Black magic has no claim upon one who is hidden in Christ, for greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. We pray that your daughter will walk in that deliverance, that she will look to her heavenly Father alone for sanctification and protection, and that any fear will be turned to faith in the right hand of the Lord which does valiantly. We also pray for the man who yet walks in darkness, that the Lord would open his ears and turn him from his purpose, that he might confess, I have sinned and perverted that which was right, and find that God will deliver his soul from going into the pit.
Concerning her need for work and these late night positions, we join your wise prayer that the Lord would shut the doors which should not be opened. He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction that He may withdraw man from his purpose and hide pride from man. If a place would expose her to greater danger or rob her of needful rest, may the Lord in His mercy close it firmly. If there is a place where she may labour with safety and usefulness, may He open it plainly. We pray for guidance, for favour with those who hire, and for a position suited to her health and her calling as a nurse. We encourage her also to seek godly counsel and practical wisdom regarding hours and travel when tired, for the Lord often protects us through prudent means as well as by miracle.
Let us pray together.
O gracious Father, we thank Thee that Thou hast found a ransom and that Thou art able to deliver from the pit. We bring this daughter before Thee. Cover her with Thy hand as she cares for patients and as she drives in darkness. Keep her from all harm and from the snares of the evil one. Let no weapon formed against her prosper, and let the power of darkness have no dominion over her, for she is Thine. Grant her sleep and strength, and lead her to the employment Thou hast appointed, closing every door that is not of Thee and opening the right one in Thy time. Draw her ever nearer to the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation, and teach her to say with the Psalmist, The Lord has chastened me sorely but He has not given me over to death, I shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. Do this for Thy great name's sake, and give her mother a quiet heart to wait only upon God. In the name of Jesus our Redeemer we ask it, Amen.
