Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your message has been read with care and with sorrow, and I hear how deep your love is for this dear creature entrusted to your care. The details you shared about her tumor and the masses on her lungs, the coughing that comes even when she purrs, the way she tries to cuddle and then withdraws to stare alone, and the painful struggle to give her pills and inhaler and fluids, all show a heavy burden you are carrying. It is heartbreaking to watch affection itself cause suffering, and to see a companion who was once so close now seem sad and isolated. Your grief is real and it is right to bring it fully before the Lord.
We do not take lightly what you feel. Scripture gives us words for such grief, that our wound is grievous and our eyes need tears, and it also gives us a place to turn for comfort. God has given us His word as a chest of medicines for the soul, and when loss and fear press upon us we are called to dive into it and keep it in our minds. There we remember that our hope is not only in what we see here, but in the promise of life which is in Jesus Christ, where grief and mourning flee away. Even now, God sees and hears the cries of His people, and He who notes the sparrow knows your compassion for this animal He created.
I will pray with you and for you, in the name of Jesus, who alone is our salvation and our comfort.
I pray that the Lord in His mercy would look upon your cat with compassion. If it is His will, that He would bring healing and a full recovery, and that He would ease any pain or discomfort she feels. I pray that He would help her to eat and drink again, to have regular bowel movements, and to breathe more easily without coughing, so that she may rest and be comforted and know your affection without distress.
I pray that God would guide your hands and give you wisdom and steadiness as you give the four pills twice a day, the inhaler three times a day, and the fluids each week. That He would help you to do what is needed without hurting her or causing fear, and that He would give you clear discernment in every decision you must make for her care, with a conscience that seeks what is pleasing to Him.
I pray that when her time comes, the Lord would show her great mercy. That He would spare her terror and suffering, and if it is His will to take her gently in her sleep. And if you must make the difficult choice to help her go peacefully, I pray that God would provide a kind veterinarian who can come to your home, so that her last moments are in a place she knows, held in love and not in fear and confusion.
You are not alone in this. We bear this burden with you and we will continue to ask the Father to hear your desperate cries and pleas. He is near to the brokenhearted, and He gives comfort that becomes strength to endure, even when we cannot change the trial itself. Hold fast to the care of your soul and to the love you have been given to show, and keep the promises of Scripture before you each day.
May the Lord grant you peace, wisdom, and comfort in the days ahead, and may He be gracious to your beloved companion according to His perfect will. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
