Urgent Prayer Request

The heaviness and hopelessness you describe is heard, and your cry for a breakthrough is not overlooked by God. What you are feeling is the place of having no way out, where hope seems gone and despair takes over. Scripture shows this same place in the prophet who said his strength and hope had perished, that he was in affliction and misery with tears without ceasing. He was at the very bottom, and that is where many find themselves when circumstances press in and it feels as if God is not listening.

Yet in that lowest place there was a sudden turn, and the reason for the turn is given. In the midst of that despair he said, this I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. He deliberately brought his thoughts back to the character and mercies of the Lord. His mercies do not fail, they are new every morning, and great is His faithfulness. You can think yourself into deeper despair by dwelling only on the trouble, and you can also by the grace of God set your mind upon the Lord and be renewed in hope. It is not about denying reality, but about getting your eyes off yourself and off the crushing weight of the circumstance and onto the Lord Himself. We are not told to rejoice in our circumstances, which may rightly cause weeping, but to rejoice in the Lord, who remains faithful when everything else feels hopeless.

Fear and despair have a way of magnifying a situation and making it seem larger than it is. When we see only what is in front of us and do not take God into account, we despair. If you could see the whole story as God sees it, what now brings tears would be seen in the light of His deliverance. God is for you, and if God is for you, who can stand against you. He looks down from heaven and sees, and He has not abandoned you in this barren place. He can make even a place of defeat become a place where you meet Him.

There comes a point where trying to deliver yourself only deepens the sense of wretchedness. The apostle Paul came to that same cry, oh wretched man that I am, who will deliver me. The answer is not found in trying harder in your own strength, but in looking to Jesus Christ. God sometimes allows us to come to the end of ourselves so that we stop trusting in our own efforts and give all the glory to Him who alone gives victory. That victory is not by your resolve but through the work of His Spirit in you, the same Spirit who brings life and power where there was defeat.

So I encourage you to do what that prophet did. Recall to mind what is true about God. Remember His past faithfulness to you, His mercy that has not failed, His promise that He will never leave you. Bring those truths before Him in honest prayer, and ask Him to renew your mind and lift your eyes to Him. Keep turning to His Word, keep crying out to Jesus, who alone is our salvation and hope, and let others who love the Lord come alongside you in these days. You do not have to walk through this alone.

I am praying for you now, that the Lord would meet you in this depth and give you hope. Father, I lift this dear one to You who feels unable to go on and is asking for a breakthrough. Look upon this heart that is weary and heavy laden. Remind this soul of Your unfailing mercies that are new every morning and of Your great faithfulness. Lift the eyes from the present pain to Yourself, quiet the fear that magnifies the trouble, and let Your Spirit bring comfort, strength, and hope through Jesus Christ. Show Your deliverance, hold this life firmly in Your hands, and lead step by step out of despair into the hope that is firm in You. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Please do not stay isolated with these thoughts. Reach out today to a trusted pastor or counselor and to someone near you who can walk with you closely, and if you ever feel you may act on thoughts of not wanting to live, please seek help immediately from a trusted person or emergency support where you are.
