Urgent prayer for work

Your heart to seek the Lord's will above simply getting a job quickly is the right place to begin, and it is the wisest prayer you can pray.

Scripture gives us a behind the scenes view that helps us when we are waiting and uncertain. In the book of Job we see that God knew His servant well and spoke of him as blameless and upright, one who loved God and turned away from evil. At the same time the adversary had been watching Job closely and had formed a theory about him, that Job only served God because God had blessed him so richly, that his faith was only for the benefits it brought. God allowed that theory to be tested, first by allowing loss of possessions and then by allowing loss of health, though not his life, and in all of it Job did not turn against God.

That background matters for you. The Lord knows you, sees your need for work, and understands the pressure of having two opportunities before you. He is not distant or unaware while you wait. Even when it feels as though He is silent, He is still at work for your good. What happened to Job was recorded for our benefit, so that when we go through seasons of loss, waiting, or confusion we can be comforted knowing God is working even when it appears He has left us.

Job's own words in his suffering also help us. Much of what he cried out came from deep pain and limited understanding as he tried to make sense of God's ways. Those cries were not statements of God's truth, but the honest struggle of a man trying to understand why he was allowed to suffer. In the same way, when we are anxious about provision we can misjudge God's care for us. We may wonder why a door has not yet opened, but our limited view cannot see what God sees.

This is why prayer is so important, and why its purpose is not to make God do what we want but to bring us into agreement with what He wants. He knows far better than we do what is best. The most sensible and most peaceful prayer we can offer in any situation is, Father, Your will be done in my life. That does not mean we stop asking for what we need. You can and should ask the Lord for a teaching position quickly, for daily provision, and for clear guidance between these two options. But as you ask, place the request under His wisdom and lordship.

God often uses times of waiting and need to bring us to the end of our own strength so that we learn to rely on Him more fully. It is in that place of dependence that His work in us shines most clearly.

As you consider the two schools, including the religious school, ask the Lord for wisdom and trust Him to make His path clear. Look at each opportunity honestly, seek godly counsel, consider where you can serve Him most faithfully and where you can uphold what Scripture teaches, and then trust that if God closes one door or opens another, it is His hand guiding you. He will provide, and He will lead you to the place where you can be most useful to Him.

I am praying for you, that the Lord will provide for your needs, grant you peace while you wait, give you discernment as you weigh these two jobs, and lead you to the position that is according to His will. May He fill you with trust in His goodness and with confidence that He who knows you fully will not fail to guide you.
