Urgent Prayer for healing and pain relief after surgery

It is so difficult to watch someone you love suffer after surgery and feel unable to take the pain away. Seeing her cry from unbearable pain and from the stress of not being able to return to normal activities for a while brings a deep ache of its own, and it is right to bring that sorrow to Jesus.

He is close to real people in real pain. He was always more at home with ordinary people who were hurting and honest about it. Scripture says of Him that He bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses, as Isaiah foretold and Matthew confirms was fulfilled in His ministry of healing. He has power over sickness and He also has compassion for the person who is suffering.

I believe strongly that God heals, and that He heals in many ways. Sometimes He heals instantly with a word or a touch, sometimes He heals gradually over time. Sometimes He heals without any human means, and sometimes He heals through the processes He Himself placed within our bodies. The natural process of recovery after surgery, the mending of tissue and bone, is not separate from His work. He created our bodies and the way they heal, so even a gradual healing is divine. He also brings healing to the mind and emotions, calming fear, stress and the discouragement that comes when life is interrupted.

We do not fully understand why some people experience immediate relief while others walk through a longer and more painful recovery. Even the apostle Paul prayed earnestly for a painful affliction to be removed and learned that God’s answer in that case was sustaining grace rather than instant removal. That does not keep us from praying boldly for relief, it simply reminds us to pray with trust in His wisdom and love, knowing He is not limited to one pattern.

The pain she feels now is part of the body’s work of healing after the trauma of surgery. It is painful and it requires patience, but that hurt has a purpose as the body is being restored. We can ask the Lord to ease that pain, to lessen what feels unbearable, and to carry her through the recovery time without fear.

Let us pray together for her. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear one to You after her shoulder surgery. You see her tears and You know the intensity of this pain. We ask You to touch her body and bring relief, to quiet the pain and to let healing continue perfectly as You designed. Comfort her heart and calm her stress about the weeks ahead. Give her peace when she cries and help her to rest in Your care. Give strength and peace also to the one who loves her and is watching over her. We trust Your compassion and Your power, whether You heal in a moment or day by day, and we ask for Your mercy to be evident in her life. Amen.

Continue to stay near to Jesus with her in this season. He understands suffering and He is faithful to be present in it, to heal the body and to heal the troubled heart as well.
