Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this urgent need and for your love and concern for your friend and her dog. I am joining you in prayer, and I know how heavy it is to wait while a beloved pet is so sick in emergency care with such a difficult prognosis.
It helps to remember what prayer is truly for. Prayer is not a way to make God do what we want, or to bargain with Him, or to try to change His mind, or even to inform Him of what has happened as if He did not already know. Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him, and He does not change. He already sees your friend, sees this little dog, sees the veterinarians caring for him, and He cares. The purpose of prayer is not to get our will done on earth, but to invite His will to be done. In that sense prayer opens the door for God to work freely in our lives without violating the will He has given us, and it often changes our own hearts as we come to trust His wisdom and love more deeply.
That does not mean we pray without feeling or without hope. Scripture says the fervent prayer of a righteous person that comes from the heart is powerful and effective, especially when it rises out of desperation and deep need. And Jesus said that when two or three agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done by the Father. So I agree with you now before the Lord.
Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this dear dog before You and ask for Your mercy. You know his body, You know the danger from what he ate and the drop in his blood sugar, You know every detail the veterinarians are facing. I ask that You would give wisdom and skill to those caring for him, and that You would bring comfort and peace to his owner in this fearful waiting. If it is Your will, I ask that You would restore him and raise him up, for You are the Lord who heals and who becomes to us whatever we need. Above all I ask that Your perfect will be done in this situation, because Your will is wiser and more loving than anything we could ask on our own. When words are not enough, Your Spirit helps us and intercedes according to Your will, and I trust You to hear even the groanings of our hearts.
Please continue in prayer with thanksgiving, watching and trusting Him. Whether He brings the healing we long for or carries you through a different outcome, His grace remains sufficient and His strength is made perfect in weakness, and His loving kindness continues toward those who know Him. May He comfort your friend, give her peace that passes understanding, and draw her close to Himself through this trial.
