Beloved of All
It is a heavy and tender place to stand when you must make an urgent decision for a mother who is dying, and my heart is with you as you carry this weight. Wanting knowledge, wisdom and discernment in such a moment is exactly the right desire before God.
Scripture makes a clear difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge gathers facts, but wisdom knows how to apply those facts rightly. Wisdom is described as the principal thing, more valuable than rubies or riches, because it preserves and keeps the one who loves it and gives life to those who have it. The beginning of that wisdom is the fear of the Lord, a humble reverence that turns to Him first and says, Lord, I need Your mind and Your heart for this.
God invites us to ask Him for this. Wisdom is pictured as crying out openly in the streets and at the gates, calling to all who will listen and offering a banquet to all who will come. When Solomon was given the chance to ask for anything, he asked for wisdom to lead well, and God was pleased with that request and promised to give it generously. In the same way you are invited to ask, and the promise in James is that if anyone lacks wisdom, God gives liberally and without reproach to those who ask Him. In Jesus Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, so to turn to Him is to turn to the very source of wisdom, the One by whom the heavens and earth were founded.
There is also a difference between the wisdom that comes from this world and the wisdom that comes from above. The wisdom of this world is called earthly and sensual, and it often leads to confusion, striving and self seeking. God has shown that the wisdom of the world apart from Him is foolishness. But the wisdom from above is pure, peaceable, gentle and willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits. It leads to purity rather than compromise, and it sows peace so that righteousness can be reaped. As you weigh what is best for your mum, ask God not only for information about options, but for that heavenly wisdom that brings clarity, prudence and peace, and that helps you discern what honors Him and truly loves your mother well.
I am praying for you now, that the Lord will pour out His Spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding upon you. May He quiet your heart, steady your mind, and give you clear discernment for each step you must take. May He guide the counsel you receive and help you recognize what is right and good. And may He enfold your mother in His mercy and peace, and give you and your family His comfort and strength in these days. May you sense His presence leading you, and may you be given the confidence that as you seek Him first, He will direct your path.
