Update to Prayer for Healing

Disciple of Prayer
Last month I posted this prayer request (listed below) and many of you prayed for my friend, her family, and me. She passed on December 19, 2025--so while it was not the outcome I was praying for, and I am completely devastated, I feel so grateful to know she was a believer and is with Jesus. Thank you so much for your prayers, encouragement, kind words on my original post. I appreciate them more than you know.

Original Post:
My very close friend was diagnosed with stage 4, cholangiocarcinoma almost 1 year ago. She is a young Christian woman, married, with three children. Lately she has been experiencing more complications including kidney failure, difficulty eating, etc. She is in very poor spirits the last 2 months and the doctors are saying the chemo isn't working well and there's not much else they can do. I am at a loss. We have been praying for her to have strong faith, strong will to live, and a miracle for her to be completely healed. I don't even know what I'm asking for, just pray please--I'm scared. I do not doubt God at all, but I'm starting to feel much more fearful and lately I haven't been praying as much for healing because I'm scared and I don't know why. Thank you so much for listening.

We remember your dear friend with heavy hearts, yet we rejoice that she now rests in the presence of Jesus, free from pain and sorrow. Your grief is deep, and we grieve with you, for the loss of her earthly presence leaves a void in the lives of those who loved her. But we take comfort in knowing that for the believer, death is not the end—it is the gateway to eternal life with our Savior. "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die.'" (John 11:25-26). Your friend’s faith has carried her home, and though we mourn, we do not mourn as those without hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13).

You shared that you’ve been struggling with fear and even hesitating in prayer. Fear is a natural response to loss, but we must not let it silence our trust in God. The enemy would love nothing more than for fear to steal your peace and weaken your faith. We rebuke that spirit of fear in the name of Jesus, for "God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7). Your friend’s journey reminds us that God’s ways are higher than ours, and His plans, though sometimes painful, are perfect. Even when we don’t understand, we can trust Him. "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).

We also lift up your friend’s family—her husband and children—who now face the unimaginable task of navigating life without her. May the Lord surround them with His peace, provide for their every need, and fill the gaps in their hearts with His love. May they cling to the hope of reunion in eternity, knowing that one day, they will see her again. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" (Matthew 5:4). We pray that the body of Christ would rally around them, offering practical help, encouragement, and the reminder that they are not alone.

For you, dear sister, we pray that God would draw near to you in your sorrow. May He fill you with His comfort, remind you of His faithfulness, and restore your strength as you grieve. It’s okay to weep—Jesus wept at the tomb of His friend Lazarus (John 11:35). But even in your tears, may you find moments of gratitude for the time you had with your friend and the assurance that she is now in the arms of her Savior. "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:18).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that are heavy yet hopeful. We thank You for the life of this dear sister in Christ, for the way she touched lives, and for the legacy of faith she leaves behind. Lord, we ask that You would wrap Your arms around her family—her husband and children—who are navigating this profound loss. Comfort them with Your presence, provide for their needs, and remind them daily of the hope they have in You. For our sister who is grieving, we ask that You would be her refuge. Ease her pain, renew her strength, and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help her to trust in Your goodness, even when she doesn’t understand Your ways. Father, we also ask that You would guard her heart from fear and doubt. Remind her that You are sovereign, that You hold all things in Your hands, and that nothing is beyond Your control. May she find solace in Your Word and in the promise of eternal life for all who believe in You. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who conquered death and offers us life everlasting. Amen.

In the days ahead, lean on the Lord and on the family of believers. Grief is not a journey to walk alone. Share your burdens with others, and allow them to carry you when you feel weak. And remember, your friend’s story is not over—it has simply entered its most glorious chapter. One day, you will see her again, and all the pain of this world will fade away in the light of His presence. Until then, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).

We're so sorry to hear about your dear friend's passing, but we're glad to know she's now with Jesus. We've been praying for you and her family, and we want you to know that we're here for you too. It's okay to feel scared and uncertain, but remember, God is always with you, even in the darkest times.

We've been reflecting on how your friend's journey has reminded us of the power of faith. She trusted in Jesus, and now she's experiencing the fullness of His love and presence. We can take comfort in that, and we can also find strength in our own faith. Even when we don't understand, we can trust that God is working all things together for our good and His glory.

Let's continue to pray for her family, that they would feel God's comfort and peace in the days ahead. And let's also pray for you, dear friend, that you would find healing and hope in the midst of your grief. God is close to the brokenhearted, and He wants to fill you with His love and strength.

In Jesus' name, we pray.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
