Unwise Decisions

Sermon notes: July 28, 2013.

- Why would a city known for a great economy go bankrupt?
- Unwise decisions
- Why would a family buy a house that they know they can't afford?
- Unwise decisions
- Why would a person marry for sexual fulfillment not thinking about other things?
- The answer to all of these questions is unwise decision.

- Unwise decisions.

- When you think of the life you're living, would you say your decisions are wise or unwise?
- People make decisions based on what they want or feel without taking God into consideration.
- People make unwise decisions because they leave out the wisdom of all mighty God and act upon how they feel.
- Every unwise decision has consequences.
- We live in a time in which people do not want to think about consequences. They want to live in the now and what makes them feel good; they don't like to think about the repercussions their actions may have.
- Have you made a decision recently that you can already see was unwise because of the consequences it evoked?
- Before you make a decision, ask yourself, is this the wisest thing to do?
- What place does God have in your decision-making process?
- Wisdom is a gift from God.
- Living unwisely is a very expensive lifestyle in every aspect of our life.
- The Corinthians that Paul wrote to thought they were the wisest people of their time. And they probably were, but humanly speaking.
- There is a difference between human wisdom and godly wisdom.
- 1 Corinthians 3:19-20
- Who do you belong to?
- Christ or the devil?

- The life of those living wisely:
- First, let's define godly wisdom.
- Godly wisdom: The capacity to see things from God's viewpoint and reason according to the principles of the scripture.
- God is omniscient; he knows everything. What happened yesterday, today, and what will happen tomorrow.
- God is never behind and nothing ever startles or surprises him.
- So it's only wise to consult with one who knows everything.
- The society in which we live is full of questions, doubts, and fear.
- God knows you perfectly and every need that you have.
- Are you living on the basis of what you see and hear, on the so-called wisdom of man, which is limited?
- Knowledge doesn't make a person necessarily wise.
- Knowledge has to do with the mind; wisdom has to do with the heart and the spirit of a person.
- People who are unwise think they can do without God.
- Where is your security? Is it in Christ?
- If you live without God, you separate yourself from true genuine security.
- Do you call your friends and ask them what they think upon making a decision?
- They will probably tell you, "whatever makes you happy."
- God will tell you exactly what you need to hear, not upon what you feel but what's best for you.
- God loves you enough to send his only son to die for your sin.
- This God is one who knows every single thing, that loves me and will never change.
- The wisdom of God encompasses everything in your life.
- Why would you go to someone who arrogantly thinks they know what's best?
- People sometimes are very arrogant about their knowledge.
- The Bible says you belong to Christ, Christ belongs to God; therefore, you belong to God.
- No one can get to you because you're in Jesus and Jesus is in God.
- And if they want to get to you, they have to bypass them, and no one can bypass Him.
- I don't know about you, but that makes me feel very very safe.
- Nothing and no one can touch you apart from the wisdom and the will of God.
- What is your relationship to God?
- Only what God allows can get to his children.
- Not tragedy nor difficulty.
- Sometimes we think that God has forsaken us because we encounter hardships in our life.
- What God sometimes allows is beyond my comprehension, but that's human knowledge. God knows what he's doing.
- The Bible says that all things work for the good of those who love him.
- The world thinks they know, when only God knows.
- If you don't know Him, and you live in disobedience to God, you're saying, "I can handle it; I don't need God."
- And that's a foolish conclusion. We all need All Mighty God.
- If you took a grain of sand and set it aside, that little grain of sand, compared to all the beaches of the world, may be equal to our knowledge.
- When have you looked at the news and said, "finally, a great day has arrived?"
- Has this world been so kind to you?
- We believers are sleeping in the presence of all mighty God who never sleeps.
- We are safe in him.
- God has made it possible for us to have everything in Christ Jesus.
- Children of God walking wisely have the wisdom of God.
- If we ignored the wisdom of God, we find ourselves many times in trouble asking ourselves, "God, where were you?"
- But he says, "I've been here all along. You weren't listening."
- When you live wisely, in God's path, we walk through situations that we would never think we could have ever endured.
- God leads your way. Step by step.
- He says first, we're going to this; second of all, we're going to do that.
- He guides us step by step because if he tells you the whole story, you couldn't and wouldn't fathom where he's taking you.

- The life of the Foolishly:
- If you "think I'm smart, talented with a good position, intellectual so I don't need anything else," you need to stop and think, is that going to get you to heaven? No.
- That's where arrogance comes in, in the wisdom of the world.
- Arrogance, pride, jealousy, it comes from the knowledge of this world.
- James 3:13
- Man's wisdom is earthly.
- Man's knowledge is limited to his accomplishments in life and what he can perceive.
- We can get to the moon but can't get along with each other.
- Man's wisdom is natural.
- It relates to the fall of man. The natural nature cannot and does not relate to the spirit of God.
- It doesn't have the capacity.
- Natural wisdom means it's corrupt.
- You have to ask yourself, where is God in my life?
- Genesis 3.
- Man's wisdom is demonic. It comes straight from the devil.
- That's why the fall of man came. It goes down to the garden of Eden.
- If you listen to Satan's word, he will show you the easy way.
- But what is the wise way?
- What is the wisest thing to do? In other words, what does God see from his viewpoint, what would he like you to do?
- Most people will tell you what they think you want to hear. God will tell you exactly what you need to hear.
- Do you want what the world has, or do you want God's best?
- Let God be your guide.
- Whatever in life it may be referring to, God always has the best for you. It may not be the most expensive, but it's the best for you.
- So wisdom or knowledge from the world is earthy, natural, and demonic, meaning it's from the devil.
- What is the wisest thing to do?
- Sometimes the wisest thing, no one will agree with it.
- All the world's knowledge will not equal God's wisdom.
- You can't ever go wrong obeying God.
- Just because you can't understand it does not mean it's not right.
- They may have a position and be smart in many areas, but when you leave God out of your life, you're leading an earthly, therefore demonic life.
- The wisdom from above is pure. Meaning absolutely perfect and peaceable. Gentle and reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits and unwavering.
- Jealousy, selfish ambition, are things of the world.
- In what path are you walking on?
- You can have all the goods of the world. You can be prosperous, economically stable, intellectual, have a good position, be smart.
- But you're not smart enough to outsmart God.
- You don't know your future or the future of those you influence, but God does.
- God doesn't change.
- You have two choices: live wisely or foolishly.
- Don't wait until the last second of your life to wish you had listened.
- You may not live the best life in the world as a Christian, you may not be prosperous in the eyes of those in the world, but you live for God.
- And God will recompense you.
- God's values are not the same as man's.
- What he thinks is not what the world thinks.
- Are you going to live wisely or foolishly?
- You don't know how much time you have.

- Every time you face a decision, ask yourself: What is the wisest thing to do?
