Proverbs 25 (NKJV)
²¹If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; ²²For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, And the LORD will reward you.
But, what does it mean when you treat someone in that manner, to heap hot coal on their head, yet you receive no reward? I prefer the New Testament version of that text, which reads:
Romans 12 (NKJV)
²⁰Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." ²¹Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
At some point, you must face yourself and ask: What did that person ever do to me, personally? Like Apostle Paul asked:
Galatians 4:16 (NKJV)
Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?
Apparently.
Here's the thing, if you are operating under the "hot coals" premise, as a city, and a person speaking truth, whether in their testimony or through scripture, makes them an enemy, in your city, because they are operating in truth, those same hot coals intended for them will be heaped on your own city.
Indeed this city has been blessed beyond measure, and she gives from the abundance that God has given her: Yet, she has in fact tolerated that woman. My having been thrown into the very gutter testifies to the fact that I am not that woman. Therefore, the fact that they have not received the rewards they desire rests on their own heads and the heads of those females whose counsel they heeded.
I'm so glad I'm not the woman they tolerated, but rather, as a true messenger, through whom God continues to manifest His Word, was rejected by my own hometown.²¹If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; ²²For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, And the LORD will reward you.
