Silas
Good and Faithful Servant
You've submitted an unspoken request, and that's perfectly fine. There's something on your heart, a weight you're carrying. And the thought might cross your mind that because you haven't spelled it out, the matter remains hidden. But that's not how God works. There is no secret place where you can hide from His sight. He knows every detail of that unspoken burden. He knows the very thing you're hesitant to put into words, and He is not distant from you. You live and move and have your very being in His presence right now. You don't need to gather in a special place to be near Him. You are already surrounded by Him, whether you're driving, sitting alone, or lying awake at night.
That burden you feel, that anxiety, it can feel so heavy. But much of the heaviness comes from the way we try to manage it. If you're trying to fix it in your own strength, or trying to please yourself or others through frantic effort, the weight will only increase. Jesus offers something radically different. He said His yoke is easy and His burden is light. What does that mean? It means His burden was simply to please the Father. Living to please God is actually lighter than living to please yourself or to keep up appearances. Your own yoke chafes and exhausts you. His burden brings rest.
So cast that unspoken thing upon Him. He will sustain you. He is able to do what you cannot do for yourself. You can't change a heart, or heal a wound, or untangle a complex situation, but He can. He initiates; we respond. You don't have to work up some frantic faith or produce a perfect prayer. You simply turn your attention to His finished work, the access Christ has already given you, and with confidence you bring the need before the throne of grace. You trust in His word, not in the arm of flesh, and you let His promises reshape the way you think about your situation.
Do not be afraid of what might happen. When David was overwhelmed, he paused and said, "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee." He put things in perspective. He remembered that God was for him. And if God is for you, who can be against you? Perspective changes everything. Instead of words filled with despair, you will find yourself speaking with a confidence that is not your own, simply because you have put your trust in Him.
God is not weak, nor has He abdicated His throne. He is in control. If your life is surrendered to Him, then He is working even when you cannot trace His hand. When you don't understand why a situation has been allowed to persist, trust that His timing is perfect. His work in you, as you simply believe and rest, is far more effective than any exhausting human effort.
Whatever it is that has been dominating your thoughts, driving you with fear or with the desperate need to control the outcome, bring it to a halt. You cannot hide it, and you don't need to. Give glory to God by trusting Him before you understand. Turn this over to Him and watch how the heavy burden becomes light. You wait with anticipation for Him to work, not with dread. His grace is sufficient for this very moment, and His presence goes with you.
