Unspoken prayer

Thank you for trusting us with this unspoken need for your family. Though the details are unspoken to us, they are fully known to your heavenly Father, and we count it a privilege to join with you in bringing your family before Him.

Prayer rests on relationship. Through faith in Jesus Christ we are given the right to come to God as Father, and that relationship opens the way for real and effective prayer. If that relationship is not yet settled in your heart, the one prayer God delights to hear is, God be merciful to me, a sinner, and through Jesus that relationship is established and every other prayer finds its place.

The purpose of prayer is not to persuade God to do our will, but to invite His will to be done. Jesus gave a pattern for prayer that begins with worship, honoring the Father and His name and His kingdom, then brings our personal petitions, and then reaches beyond ourselves in intercession for others. Your unspoken request fits within that pattern. The Father already knows what your family needs before you ask, and prayer is simply opening the door and consenting for Him to do what His loving heart already desires to do. We can trust that His kingdom and power and glory will govern His answer.

You do not need a long or eloquent prayer for God to hear you. The prayers recorded in Scripture are often very brief. What matters is not length but earnestness and faith from the heart. Scripture says the earnest, heartfelt prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective, and gives Elijah as an example of a man whose prayer God answered. We also have the promise that when two or three agree on earth concerning anything they ask, it will be done by the Father. On that basis we are agreeing with you now for your family.

We are praying that God will be worshiped in your home, that His will and His kingdom will be evident there, and that He will meet each need in your family according to His wisdom and love. We ask Him to supply strength, guidance, wisdom and help where it is needed most, to bring comfort and assurance by His Spirit as you wait on Him, and to work in every heart in your family to draw each one closer to Himself. We also ask that the Holy Spirit, who helps us in prayer and brings needs to remembrance, will continue to intercede for you even when words are few.

More is accomplished through prayer than we will ever see in this life, and God delights to work as His people pray. Be encouraged that you are not alone in this. We are holding you and your family up before the Father in the name of Jesus, trusting Him to answer in the way that brings Him glory and brings true good to those you love.
