We join you in bringing this matter before the Lord and we appreciate your desire to see justice done in a godly way while also praying for the heart of your former landlord rather than seeking revenge.

We understand how burdensome it can be when another person's unpaid obligation creates stress and leaves an unresolved issue with the authorities both here and abroad. God cares about justice and integrity in these practical matters. Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God Romans 13:1. And we are taught to give therefore to everyone what you owe, taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, respect to whom respect, honor to whom honor Romans 13:7. To leave a penalty unpaid when it is owed is not in keeping with honesty and respect for the law that God has established.

We also hear your prayer that he would feel remorse. Scripture speaks of a sorrow that leads to right action. For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, which brings no regret 2 Corinthians 7:10. Our prayer is not that he would simply feel shame or fear of punishment, but that God would bring a godly conviction that leads him to take responsibility and make this right.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, for it is only through Him we have access to Your throne of grace. We lift up this former landlord to You. You know his heart and You know where he is, both here and abroad, and You see this overdue penalty that remains unpaid to the police. We ask that You would work in his conscience and bring him to a place of true remorse and repentance. Soften any hardness and remove any desire to evade what is owed. Move him to act with integrity and to resolve this issue fully with the proper authorities. We ask that You would make a way for this to be settled quickly and completely so that no further trouble or injustice remains. We also pray for the one who submitted this request, that You would guard their heart from bitterness and anxiety. Help them to commit their way to Yahweh, trust also in Him and He will do this Psalm 37:5, and to know Your peace which surpasses all understanding. Teach us all to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, and pray for those who mistreat us Luke 6:28, trusting that vengeance belongs to You and that You desire all to come to repentance. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to entrust this situation to the Lord while also taking any lawful and wise steps that are appropriate to protect yourself and to ensure you are not held responsible for what another owes. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God Philippians 4:6. God is both just and merciful, and He sees this matter fully. Keep praying for this man not only that the debt be paid, but that his heart would be turned toward honesty and toward the Lord Himself.

We hear how wearing this has been, carrying concern for an unpaid penalty that is not yours to carry, yet still affects you. It makes sense you would want your former landlord to take responsibility and make this right, both here and abroad.

Wanting remorse is understandable, and we have found that genuine remorse usually shows itself in action, in taking concrete steps to settle what is owed and restore what was broken. We pray for that kind of honest change of heart for him, not just feeling bad but following through.

While you pray for him, it can help to keep your own part clear and settled. If you have not already, keep a simple file of your former lease, move-out notice, and any messages about the penalty, so you have a clear record that the matter belongs to him. If you are worried the overdue penalty could still be linked to your name or old address, a brief check-in with a local tenant advice service or legal aid office can give you peace of mind about where you stand. We will keep praying alongside you as you take those practical steps.

Father, we lift this former landlord to You and ask that You would work in his conscience and guide him to resolve what is overdue with the police in both places. We ask for wisdom and peace for our friend waiting on this, and for this burden to be lifted in the right way. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden concerning this unpaid penalty has been brought before the Lord and we join you in prayer for this former landlord.

We pray not merely that he may feel the sting of exposure or the fear of the police, whether here or abroad where the penalty remains overdue, but that God in His mercy would grant him that true repentance which is the gift of God and the work of the Holy Spirit in the soul. There is a repentance that is of the flesh, a carnal remorse produced by judgment and fear, which repents not to give God glory. Such repentance is not the holy, healthy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart. We ask the Lord to spare him from that false sorrow which needs to be repented of, and to give him repentance unto life.

True repentance looks toward God. It weeps and abhors past wrong because of the love of Christ which pardons, and it avoids present sin because of the love of God who died for us. It gives God glory, it yields works meet for repentance, and it lasts. It is practical, showing that we in earnest grieve by doing so no more. So we pray that if it be His will, the goodness of God would lead this man to repentance, drawing him rather than merely driving him, that he may see his duty before God and before men and make restitution where it is due.

We remember that we are all tenants and God is the great Landlord of the house in which we dwell, and we all must pay our rent to Him in lives of honesty and holiness. May this man be brought to offer the key of his house to that great Landlord and to walk in the light.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, who alone canst change the heart, look in mercy upon this man. Grant him godly sorrow for sin that needs not to be repented of, and join to that sorrow faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ, for repentance and faith are born of the same Spirit and repentance and remission are joined together in Christ's name. Lead him to confess what is amiss, to take responsibility for what is owed, and to resolve the matter with the authorities with integrity and truth. And grant to the one who has prayed, peace in leaving this matter in Thy hands, trusting that Thou doest all things well. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only Saviour, in whom alone is salvation. Amen.
