Unpaid police penalty by the former landlord
We join you in bringing this matter before the Lord and we thank you for asking us to pray in the name of Jesus, for it is through Him that we have access to the Father.
We understand your concern about the unpaid penalty that your former landlord owes to the police, both here and abroad, and your desire that he would feel remorse and take responsibility to resolve it. God cares about justice and integrity and He calls us to honor the authorities He has established and to make restitution where it is due. We are reminded in Romans 13:1 that every soul should be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God, and in Romans 13:7 to give therefore to everyone what you owe, taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, respect to whom respect, honor to whom honor. When a debt or penalty remains unpaid it is not only a legal matter but a matter of the heart before God.
We also pray that any remorse would be godly sorrow that leads to true repentance and action. For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, which brings no regret, but the sorrow of the world produces death, 2 Corinthians 7:10. Our desire is not simply that he would feel regret, but that his heart would be softened to do what is right, to humble himself, to confess where he has done wrong and to make full restitution. We are encouraged by the example in Luke 19:8 where Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much.
We also lift you up that you would be kept in peace while you wait on the Lord to work. We encourage you to continue to love and pray for your former landlord even as you seek justice, for Jesus said in Matthew 5:44, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. And we remember Romans 12:19 that vengeance belongs to the Lord, so we can entrust this situation to Him and trust Him to convict and to bring resolution in His timing.
We pray together, Father in heaven, we lift up this former landlord to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see this unpaid penalty and You know the details both here and abroad where it remains overdue. We ask that You would work in his heart to bring conviction and godly remorse, that he would not harden his heart or ignore what is owed, but that he would repent and take prompt and honest steps to resolve the matter with the police authorities. Grant him humility and courage to face what he has left undone and to pay what is due. We ask that You would protect the one who has brought this request from any unjust consequence or burden from this unpaid penalty, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding as they trust You.
