Disciple of Prayer
Lord, If this university will make me more knowledgeable, a better person to strangers, friends, and family, but more importantly, stronger in my faith to you, then please allow the doors to open for me to enter. If it does not align with Your Will, please close the doors and heal my heart from any attachment that I may have to it. What I want, more than the name, status, or knowledge than any university can provide to me is to become a better person under your will, now and in the next four years that I will be in school. Hear my prayer.

The Ministry of Gratitude
Sickness in the Mansion
We join you in this beautiful and mature prayer, for it shows a heart that desires God's will above personal ambition, status, or even knowledge itself. What you have asked is exactly what the Lord desires from us, to seek His kingdom first and trust Him with the doors He opens and closes. We stand with you in asking for wisdom and surrender in this important decision about the next four years of your life.

The Scriptures encourage us in this way, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. And again, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8. Your desire to become more knowledgeable, a better person to others, and most importantly stronger in your faith is pleasing to God, for the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. Proverbs 9:10. We also remember the promise, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11.

We notice you prayed to the Lord, and we want to gently encourage you to come before the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to God. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. And, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by placing our faith in Jesus, His death and resurrection for our sins, that our prayers are heard and our future is secure, no matter which university you attend. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5, so we ask that wisdom in Jesus' name.

We pray together with you now. Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We thank You for the humble heart that seeks Your will above all else. Lord, if this university will make this one more knowledgeable, more loving to strangers, friends and family, and stronger in faith toward You, we ask that You open the doors wide and make the path clear. If it is not Your will, we ask that You firmly close the doors, guard this heart from disappointment, and heal any attachment that remains. Give peace that surpasses understanding and lead to the place where growth, service, and faith will flourish for Your glory. Help this one to not be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind, so as to prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. In the next four years and beyond, make this life a testimony of Your grace and truth. We entrust this future into Your loving hands, knowing that in all things God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily as you wait for His answer. Whatever campus He leads you to, seek out fellowship with other believers, a faithful church, and keep your walk with Christ as your first priority, for knowledge alone puffs up while love builds up. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. Colossians 3:23. God will be faithful to guide you, to heal your heart if needed, and to shape you into the person He has called you to be under His will.

Thank you for letting us pray with you about this university decision. We hear how much you want these next four years to shape you into someone more loving toward others and more rooted in your faith, more than just a name or status. That desire to put God's will first is a good place to be, even when the waiting is hard.

We love how you prayed for open doors if this is right and closed doors if not, and for your heart to be healed from attachment either way. That kind of surrender takes courage, and it often does not come with an instant answer. Sometimes clarity comes as we keep taking faithful next steps and listening carefully.

One thing that may help as you wait is to give that prayer some practical shape with someone who knows you well. You might sit down with a pastor, mentor, or trusted family member and talk through what a place that would help you grow in faith and character would actually look like day to day, the community, the opportunities to serve and be discipled, the pressures you might face there. Visiting and asking those honest questions can make it easier to recognize whether this particular door is one that helps you become the person you described.

Father, we lift this student to You and ask for Your clear leading. Give wisdom in each application and conversation, peace while waiting, and a heart that rests in Your will even before the answer is clear. Shape the next four years for Your glory and for their good, and draw them closer to You wherever they study. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your prayer has the very music of a submissive heart in it, and there is wisdom in asking not merely for open doors, but for a will that bows to the divine will whether the door opens or shuts.

As surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, so His will must be the axle of your life. It is the great heart of providence sending its pulse through even the most distant limbs of human action, and it is far better to be guided by it than to guide yourself. The apostle James warns us against saying we will go and do this or that and get gain, as if we could both propose and dispose without asking God's consent. The better way, the way you have chosen in this prayer, is to say, I will go, or I will stay, if it is the will of God. There is a revealed will in His Word which we must not violate, and there is a providential will which we should always consult, seen in the circumstances that surround us and the doors He opens and closes.

You have prayed like one who understands unconditional surrender. You will never be happy till self is dethroned, and some of God's children are in great trouble only because they will not yield to the divine will. To fling wide the gates of the city of Mansoul and admit the Prince Emmanuel to rule as sole sovereign in every street is the only path to peace. You have asked Him to heal your heart from any attachment that may remain if this university is not His best for you. That is to keep back no portion for yourself, to retain no little reserve, for that reserve would be the channel by which your life would bleed away. To yield your ambition, your plans for the next four years, and even the name and status that a university may give, is to make a full capitulation, and it will go well with you when you do so.

Take comfort also in this promise, He will guide you with His counsel and afterward receive you to glory. If you live near to God, He will say things to you that He will not tell others, and nine times out of ten you will find plain direction in the Ten Commandments and in His Word which will tell you what you must not do and so help you conclude what you may do. Whether in the lecture hall or in service to strangers, friends and family, your best profit will consist of doing God's will, and your truest knowledge will be to know Christ and Him crucified, for there is no other way of salvation but by His grace, through His blood, by simply trusting Jesus.

May the Lord grant your request according to His perfect wisdom. If this place of learning will make you more useful, more humble, more loving and more firmly rooted in faith, may He open the doors no man can shut. And if in His infinite mercy He sees another path that will more sanctify you and make you a better servant of Christ and of others, may He gently close this door, heal every disappointment, and make you willing in the day of His power, working in you to will and to do of His good pleasure. May these four years, wherever they are spent, be years of learning and of teaching what you learn, so that what you receive does not breed mildew by hoarding but keeps sweet by being shared for His glory.

We join our prayer to yours, that Christ may be your wisdom and your guide in every step, and that you may be kept, preserved and presented at last in His eternal glory.
