Beloved of All
We are joining you in prayer for this mother and her unborn son, asking God for His mercy and protection over them both. We are praying specifically that the umbilical cord would remain clear and healthy with no clot, that this little boy would be strong and well formed, and that the Lord would carry him safely to the full term you are hoping for.
There is a warm greeting in the letter of 3 John where John tells his friend Gaius that he wishes above all things that he may prosper and be in health even as his soul prospers. That was not written as a blanket promise that every believer will always be free from sickness, but as a heartfelt prayer and wish from one friend to another. It shows us the right way to pray for one another, and it reminds us that God does care about our physical health. John was glad because Gaius was walking in the truth and his soul was prospering, and he prayed that his bodily health might match that spiritual health. In the same way we can bring this mother and child before the Lord with that same kind of loving prayer.
Scripture also shows us how attentive God is to pregnancy and to the details of a child's life before birth. When Mary was in the final difficult days of her pregnancy she made the long and uncomfortable journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in obedience to the decree that had gone out from Rome. From a human view it looked inconvenient and hard, yet God was sovereignly at work through those very circumstances to fulfill what He had spoken and to watch over that mother and child. He sees this mother now in these final weeks, He knows every detail of this baby's body, every vessel and heartbeat, and nothing is hidden from Him.
We also know that physical struggles are not a measure of faith or commitment. Some of the most faithful people who walk closely with the Lord still face serious health challenges, and that does not mean God has forgotten them or that they have failed Him. His ways are higher than our ways, and we do not always understand why He allows what He does, but we can trust His character and His love.
So we continue to pray and to trust Him with the outcome, asking for His healing and sustaining hand.
Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this mother and her unborn son to You. You formed this child and You know him completely. We ask that You would keep the umbilical cord free from any clot or obstruction, that blood would flow freely and bring all that this baby needs to grow. Touch his body and make him healthy and strong. Guard his life and grant that he would continue to grow safely to full term and be born well. Give peace and strength to his mother, calm her heart with Your presence, and let her soul prosper as she walks in Your truth. We place them both in Your caring hands and ask for Your will to be done with mercy. Amen.
