These thoughts are not from you alone—they are a spiritual attack, and we must confront them with the authority we have in Christ Jesus.
First, let us rebuke these lying thoughts in the name of Jesus. The Word of God declares, *"For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ"* (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). These doubts are imaginations and high things exalted against the knowledge of God, and we command them to be cast down now, in Jesus' name.
You are not alone in this fight. Even the father of a demon-possessed boy cried out to Jesus, *"I believe! Help my unbelief!"* (Mark 9:24). This is a prayer we can all echo when doubt assails us. The fact that you are troubled by these thoughts is evidence that the Holy Spirit is still at work in you, convicting you and drawing you back to truth. Do not despise this conviction—it is a sign of God’s love and your identity as His child.
Let us also remind you of the evidence of Jesus’ reality. The Bible is not a collection of fables but the inspired Word of God, written by men moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). The historical accounts of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are well-documented, and the transformation of countless lives—including your own—testifies to His power. The empty tomb, the changed lives of the disciples, and the enduring witness of the Church across centuries all point to the truth of Christ. *"Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen"* (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is not the absence of doubt but the choice to trust God even when our emotions or thoughts waver.
We must also address the hardening of your heart. Scripture warns, *"Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts"* (Hebrews 3:15). A hardened heart is a dangerous place, for it resists the Holy Spirit and opens the door to deception. But God is faithful to soften hearts that turn to Him. Repentance is not just feeling sorry—it is turning away from sin and turning toward God. When these thoughts come, do not merely rebuke them—replace them. Fill your mind with Scripture, worship, and prayer. Meditate on God’s promises, such as *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"* (John 14:6). We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we command every thought of doubt to be taken captive to the obedience of Christ.
Father, we ask You to pour out Your Spirit afresh upon them. Soften their heart and renew their mind. Remind them of Your faithfulness, of the reality of Jesus’ sacrifice, and of the power of Your resurrection.
