Beloved of All
How do I find trusted people. I do need help and I’m not too proud to ask. I think that I am trustworthy. A coworker was getting married and she asked me not to tell the others. She told me “I trust you but not them”. I did not reveal anything as I value confidentiality. We had a splendid time at the wedding. I am trying to locate trusted GODLY individuals in Jesus name. They don’t have to know every detail of my life. If they are trustworthy with simple details, then I pray that they are trustworthy with the more complex ones. Wolves in sheep’s clothing have been showing out more frequently. I don’t think I am perfect or better than anyone. I just like to put myself in other people’s “shoes”.

We hear your heart, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we understand the deep longing for godly fellowship and trustworthy companionship. Your desire to honor confidentiality and your awareness of the deceptive nature of some who claim to follow Christ is wise and commendable. The Word of God speaks clearly about the importance of surrounding ourselves with those who are faithful, discerning, and walking in the truth.

First, we must affirm that your pursuit of trusted, godly individuals is not only wise but necessary. Scripture warns us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" This principle extends beyond marriage—it applies to all close relationships. The people you allow into your inner circle should be those who share your commitment to Christ and His Word.

Your example of keeping your coworker’s confidence is a beautiful reflection of Proverbs 11:13, "One who brings gossip betrays a confidence, but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret." Trust is built over time through consistent faithfulness in small things, just as you’ve observed. Jesus Himself said in Luke 16:10, "He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much." This is a foundational truth for discerning who can be trusted with deeper matters.

However, we must also caution against placing trust in people alone, no matter how godly they may seem. Even the most faithful believers are still human and capable of failure. Our ultimate trust must be in the Lord, who never fails. Psalm 118:8 reminds us, "It is better to take refuge in Yahweh, than to put confidence in man." This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t seek godly community—far from it. But it does mean we should hold our relationships with open hands, always leaning on the Lord first and foremost.

To find trusted, godly individuals, we encourage you to seek out those who demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit as described in Galatians 5:22-23: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control." Look for those who are active in their local church, who prioritize prayer and the study of God’s Word, and who exhibit humility and a teachable spirit. Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance." Godly friendships are those that challenge us to grow in Christlikeness, not those that lead us into compromise or worldliness.

We must also address the reality of wolves in sheep’s clothing, as you’ve mentioned. Jesus warned us in Matthew 7:15, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves." These individuals may appear godly, but their actions and motives reveal their true nature over time. This is why discernment is so critical. Pray for wisdom, as James 1:5 promises, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." Ask the Lord to reveal the hearts of those around you and to guide you to those who are genuine in their faith.

We also want to gently encourage you to examine your own heart as you seek trusted individuals. While it’s wise to be cautious, we must also guard against cynicism or isolation. Proverbs 18:1 warns, "An unfriendly man pursues selfishness, and defies all sound judgment." Even as you seek trustworthy friends, ensure that you are also extending trust and love to others, as Christ has called us to do. Your desire to put yourself in others’ shoes is a beautiful reflection of Philippians 2:3-4, "Doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others."

Let us pray together for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is seeking trusted, godly companionship. Lord, You know their heart and their desire to walk in wisdom and discernment. We ask that You would guide them to those who are faithful, true, and walking in Your ways. Surround them with friends who will sharpen them in their faith, encourage them in their walk with You, and hold them accountable in love.

Father, we pray against the schemes of the enemy, who seeks to isolate and deceive. Protect our brother/sister from those who would masquerade as godly but whose hearts are far from You. Give them discernment to recognize true fellowship and the courage to step away from those who do not honor You.

Lord, we also ask that You would cultivate in them a spirit of humility and openness. Help them to trust in You above all else, knowing that You are their ultimate refuge and strength. Teach them to extend grace and love even as they seek to protect their own heart.

We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness and for the promise that You will never leave us nor forsake us. May our brother/sister find their trust in You deepened as they seek godly community. In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord in prayer and immerse yourself in His Word, for it is there that you will find the wisdom and discernment you need. Attend a Bible-believing church where the Word is preached faithfully and the body of Christ is encouraged to walk in holiness. As you do, the Lord will bring the right people into your life at the right time. Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps.

We hear you, dear friend, and we understand your desire for trusted, godly companionship. It's a journey we're all on, seeking those who will walk alongside us in faith and integrity. We want to encourage you to keep seeking, keep praying, and keep being open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Remember, trust is like a garden that needs time and care to grow. It's cultivated through consistent, small acts of faithfulness. As you've seen in your own life, trustworthy people reveal themselves over time, often in the little things. So, be patient, be discerning, and be open to the process.

We also want to remind you that trust is a two-way street. As you seek trusted individuals, also ask yourself, "Am I trustworthy?" Trust is built when we are faithful in the small things and when we honor the trust others place in us. So, keep being the trustworthy person you strive to be.

In your search, look for people who demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Seek out those who are actively involved in their local church, prioritize prayer and the study of God's Word, and exhibit humility and a teachable spirit.

And remember, dear friend, even as we seek trustworthy people, our ultimate trust must be in the Lord. He is our refuge and our strength, our rock and our fortress. Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, we come before You today, lifting up our dear friend who is seeking trusted, godly companionship. Lord, You know their heart and their desire to walk in wisdom and discernment. We ask that You would guide them to faithful, true, and godly friends. Surround them with friends who will sharpen them in their faith, encourage them in their walk with You, and hold them accountable in love. Protect them from those who would deceive and lead them astray. Help them to trust in You above all else, and to extend grace and love even as they seek to protect their own heart. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Keep seeking the Lord in prayer and immerse yourself in His Word. Attend a Bible-believing church where the Word is preached faithfully and the body of Christ is encouraged to walk in holiness. As you do, the Lord will bring the right people into your life at the right time. Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps.
