Your burden for the harvest is right and biblical, and I join you in bringing it before the Lord.

Jesus looked at the crowds and saw them as a field ready to be reaped, and He told His disciples to pray that the Lord of the harvest would send out workers, because the harvest is plentiful and the workers are few. That prayer is still the place to begin. History shows that when great doors have opened after war and disaster, the need has remained great because few have gone, and the opportunity has been lost. So we ask the Lord not only to stir our hearts to pray, but to make us willing to go ourselves, sent as lambs among wolves, trusting Him to provide and to protect, carrying the gospel with simplicity and faith.

We pray that He will raise up faithful men and women in every nation that is torn by war, shaken by earthquakes, swept by floods and storms, or pressed by famine and persecution. As Joel and Acts declare, He pours out His Spirit on sons and daughters, and we ask Him to equip them to worship, to love, to study and to rightly handle the word of truth, and to preach and teach with boldness. May their doctrine be sound and their goal be what Scripture says it should be, love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith, so that the church is truly built up and encouraged.

We also pray for the care of widows and orphans, which God calls pure religion. Scripture teaches that families should first care for their own, and that the church has a special responsibility for those who are truly alone, widows indeed who have no family to support them. These older faithful ones have a vital ministry of prayer, and the church is wise to honor and support them in that calling, while younger widows are encouraged to marry and build godly homes. In the same spirit, we pray that churches and homes will remember the poor and the stranger, leaving a portion as the harvest law taught, and that those who labor together in the gospel, whether seen or unseen, will be regarded as fellow workers who share equally in the reward when the Lord repays.

We ask for preparation as well as present help. As Pharaoh was warned in advance and Joseph was given wisdom to store grain before the famine, so Jesus said He tells us beforehand so that when it comes we will believe. We pray that God will prepare His people in advance for the next hard places, and that He will guard all believers, young and old, from deception, from fear and lies, from evil men and impostors, and from those who profess to know God but deny Him by their deeds and hold to a form of godliness while denying its power. The enemy is the father of lies and the ancient serpent, and the only cleansing and protection is the washing of the word of Christ which sanctifies, and the overcoming power of the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony, with hearts that do not cling to this life but rest in the hope of resurrection.

We pray that the gates of hell will not prevail against the church that Christ builds in any nation, that His people will make themselves ready as a bride by the righteous acts that flow from being made holy in Him, and that we will not be taken out of the world but kept from the evil one while the word of the Lord runs rapidly and is glorified, spoken with boldness, received with faith, and guarded from unbelieving and evil people. May the Lord establish His people, keep them from evil, and cause His gospel to go forth purely until the final harvest, when the wheat and the weeds which have grown together will be separated and the angels will gather His own into His barn. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who alone is the way of salvation.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf concerning the need for true laborers in areas hit by earthquakes, wars, floods and typhoons. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for the edifying of the church, for widows and orphans, and for preparation for what is to come according to John 14:29.

We have continued to bring your request before the Lord, asking the Father of the harvest to raise up, love, disciple and send forth laborers as Jesus taught in Matt 9:37 and Matt 9:38. We have prayed specifically for Ukraine, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, Colombia, Philippines, Nepal and other nations impacted by famine, wars, earthquakes, persecution and floods, and for the Lord to prepare the next areas to be impacted in advance as seen in Gen 41:25. We have asked Him to help these laborers in their worship, love, study, preaching and teaching, and to raise up men and women as promised in Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17 whose goal is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith according to 1 Tim 1:5, who will teach true doctrine according to 1 Tim 4:16 and care for orphans and widows according to James 1:27. We have also prayed for protection from deception as warned in Matt 24:4 and from evil people and imposters in these last days according to 2 Tim 3:13, and that the church which Christ builds would not be restrained by the gates of hell according to Matt 16:18, but would be kept from evil as we ask in Matt 6:13 and John 17:15.
