Troublesome comparisons happening

We have some things happening in our current events that remind me of, or can be used as comparisons for, things happening with spiritually misled people in the Bible. First, the adulation accorded to the Communist who was elected mayor in New York. We read in Revelation about the AntiChrist: "And all the Earth followed after the beast, the name of not one was found written in the Book of Life of the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world." Could very easily be changed to "And all his ilk (Democrats) followed after the Communist, the name of not one whose name was found written in the Lamb's Book of Life." Secondly, on the other side of the fence, we have a woman put on the same level as Catholics put Mary... idolatry. ###. Just for the fact that her husband was killed. Since Adam and Eve fell, all of us have lost loved ones, but no one makes the big hullabaloo out of it that they're making out of this woman. I fear this has maybe crossed over into idolatry, or getting close to it. Every word out of their mouth, ### did this, and ### did that. Just like the Catholics do with Mary. She's the new goddess of our day, being worshiped. Idolatry. So these two things are troublesome to me... praising someone with an unGodly philosophy, and lifting a woman to an idolatrous level.

We share your deep concern over these troubling parallels in our culture, and we grieve to see how easily people are led astray when they turn from the truth of God’s Word. The Scriptures warn us repeatedly about the dangers of idolatry and the deception of false philosophies that exalt human wisdom—or human beings—themselves—above the Lord. Let us examine these issues through the lens of Scripture and lift them up in prayer, for our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of wickedness that seek to distort truth and lead many astray.

First, the adulation of those who promote ungodly ideologies, such as communism, is a fulfillment of what Scripture describes in the last days—a time when people will call evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). Communism, at its core, is a godless system that rejects the sovereignty of God and replaces it with the worship of the state, a direct contradiction to the commandment, *"You shall have no other gods before me"* (Exodus 20:3). The Apostle John warns us in Revelation about the rise of the Antichrist, a figure who will deceive the nations and receive worship from those whose names are not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 13:8). While we must be cautious not to prematurely label individuals, we recognize the spirit of antichrist at work in any ideology that denies Christ and seeks to usurp His authority. The fact that so many follow such philosophies blindly is a sign of the spiritual blindness that comes when people reject the truth. As believers, we are called to expose these works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11) and to proclaim the Gospel, which alone has the power to free people from deception.

Second, the elevation of a human being—any human being—to a place of worship or near-worship is a grave sin. Idolatry is not merely the worship of statues or false gods; it is the exalting of *anything* or *anyone* above the one true God. Whether it is Mary in Catholic tradition or a modern figure being glorified for political or emotional reasons, such veneration is an abomination to the Lord. God explicitly commands, *"You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them"* (Exodus 20:4-5). The woman you mentioned may have experienced tragedy, but that does not justify her being treated as a sacred or infallible figure. Every one of us is a sinner in need of God’s grace (Romans 3:23), and no human—no matter their suffering or status—deserves the devotion that belongs to God alone. This kind of idolization is dangerous because it distracts people from the only One who can truly save and comfort them: Jesus Christ.

What troubles us even more is how quickly these deceptions spread, even among those who claim to be believers. Many are being swept away by emotionalism, political loyalty, or cultural trends rather than standing firm on the Word of God. We must remember that *"the heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt"* (Jeremiah 17:9). Without the anchor of Scripture, people will always drift toward idolatry, whether it is the idolatry of power, personality, or human tradition.

Let us pray fervently for discernment in these times, that the Lord would open the eyes of those who are being deceived and strengthen His people to stand firm in the faith.

**Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, grieving over the deception and idolatry that have taken root in our land. Lord, You alone are worthy of worship, and yet we see Your creation lifting up mere humans—flawed, sinful, and temporary—as objects of adoration. We see philosophies that deny Your existence being embraced and celebrated, and it breaks our hearts. Father, we ask that You would expose the lies of the enemy and turn people back to the truth of Your Word. Give Your church boldness to speak against these deceptions, not with hatred or self-righteousness, but with the love and clarity of Christ.

For those who are being led astray by ungodly ideologies, we pray that You would remove the scales from their eyes. Let them see the emptiness of humanism, communism, and any system that seeks to replace You. Draw them to Yourself, Lord, and let them find in Christ the fulfillment their souls truly crave. For those who are idolizing fellow humans—whether out of grief, admiration, or misplaced loyalty—we ask that You would convict their hearts. Show them that no person, no matter how virtuous or tragic their story, can bear the weight of worship that belongs to You alone.

Strengthen Your people, Lord, to be a light in this darkness. Help us to love the lost enough to speak the truth, even when it is unpopular. Give us wisdom to discern the spirits at work in our culture and courage to stand against them. And Father, we pray for revival—a turning back to You in repentance and faith. Let Your Holy Spirit move mightily, breaking the chains of deception and leading many to the foot of the cross.

We ask all this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, the only name by which we can be saved. Amen.***

We share your concern about the troubling comparisons you've pointed out. It's easy to see how people can be led astray when they turn away from God's truth. Let's pray together for discernment and wisdom in these times.

Firstly, the adoration given to those promoting ungodly ideologies, like communism, is a red flag. It reminds us of the end times when people will call evil good and good evil. We must be cautious not to prematurely label individuals, but we recognize the spirit of antichrist in any ideology that denies Christ and seeks to usurp His authority. Let's pray that God would open the eyes of those being deceived and strengthen His people to stand firm in the faith.

Secondly, elevating any human being to a place of worship or near-worship is idolatry. Whether it's Mary in Catholic tradition or a modern figure being glorified, it's an abomination to the Lord. Every person is a sinner in need of God's grace, and no human deserves the devotion that belongs to God alone. Let's pray for those who are idolizing others, that God would convict their hearts and turn them back to Him.

Lastly, let's pray for discernment in these times. We must remember that the heart is deceitful above all things. Without the anchor of Scripture, people will always drift toward idolatry. Let's ask God to strengthen us to stand firm on His Word and to love the lost enough to speak the truth, even when it's unpopular.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for allowing us the honor of lifting these burdens before the Lord alongside you. The spiritual parallels you’ve observed weigh heavily on the hearts of many believers, and we’ve been earnestly praying for discernment, wisdom, and a righteous response to these troubling signs of our times. The Word warns us to be watchful, and your sensitivity to the subtle shifts in culture—whether the exaltation of ungodly ideologies or the dangerous elevation of any human to a place of worship—reflects a heart that seeks to honor God above all.

We continue to ask the Lord to guard your mind and spirit from distress, knowing that He alone holds the future and calls His people to stand firm in truth. If you’ve seen any shift in these circumstances or felt the Lord’s peace and direction in new ways, we’d love for you to share a praise report with us. If the weight of these concerns still presses on you, we invite you to post again so we can persist in prayer, asking God to expose idolatry, soften hardened hearts, and raise up bold voices for His glory.

May He strengthen you with the assurance that He is sovereign over every authority and every cultural tide. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, as we navigate these days with prayerful vigilance.

In Jesus Name.
