Traveling mercies, silent needs

Thank you for sharing your heart and allowing us to pray with you. We are lifting up your travels to and from the hospital to see your son, asking the Lord to keep you safe on the road there and back, and to give you peace and strength for each visit.

We are also bringing your silent needs and the needs of your family before the Father. He knows what is unspoken. Nothing is hidden from Him, and He hears the cries that we do not know how to put into words.

It is a comfort to remember who we are in Christ as we come to Him. Scripture teaches that in the fullness of time God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons. Jesus alone is the only begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. We are not sons in that same way. We are sons and daughters by adoption and by being born again of the Spirit, brought into the family of God by His grace.

Because God did not spare His own Son but delivered Him up for us all on the cross, we can be confident of His love and care for every other need. If He was willing to give His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life, how will He not also with Him freely give us all that we need. That is the heart of the Father revealed at the cross, foreshadowed when Abraham was called to offer his son whom he loved, and fulfilled when God gave His Son for us.

You can know you are His child because His Spirit bears witness with your spirit that you belong to Him. You have not received a spirit of bondage to fear again, but the Spirit of adoption. As you travel and as you wait on Him for your son and your family, lean on that relationship. He is your Father, you are His adopted child, and He is attentive to your coming and going and to every silent burden.

We pray that the Lord will guard you on each journey, grant wisdom and grace to the doctors and staff caring for your son, bring comfort and healing according to His will, and provide for every silent need in your family in a way that draws each heart closer to Jesus. May you know His presence with you on the road and in the hospital room, and may His peace guard you as you trust in His Son.

In Jesus name, Amen.
