Travel abroad

We hear your heart’s longing to be with your father, and we understand the deep desire for family unity, especially across distances. The Lord places great value on family and the bonds He has ordained between parents and children. Scripture tells us, "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you" (Exodus 20:12 WEB). Your desire to be with your father reflects a godly longing for connection and care.

However, we must also bring before the Lord the practical and spiritual aspects of this situation. Travel and relocation involve not only logistical challenges but also God’s will for your life. Have you sought the Lord’s guidance in prayer about whether this move aligns with His plans for you? Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB) reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." We encourage you to seek God’s wisdom in this matter, asking Him to open doors if this is His will and to close them if it is not.

We also lift up your father before the Lord. Is he walking in faith, and does he share your desire for this move to be rooted in God’s purposes? If he is not yet a believer, we pray for his salvation, that he would come to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). There is no other name by which we can be saved, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father in prayer. If your father does not yet know Christ, we pray that the Holy Spirit would draw him to repentance and faith.

If your father is a believer, we pray that he would lead your family in a way that honors God, seeking His will in all things. We also pray for your relationship with him, that it would be strengthened in Christ and that you both would grow in wisdom and discernment as you navigate this decision.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one and their father. Lord, You know the desires of their heart, and You care deeply about family and unity. We ask that You would guide them in this matter, making Your will clear. If it is Your plan for them to be together in Italy, we pray that You would open every door, provide the resources, and grant favor in the process. If it is not Your will, we ask that You would close the doors gently and reveal Your better plan for their lives.

Father, we also pray for this one’s father. If he does not yet know You, we ask that You would draw him to salvation through Jesus Christ. Soften his heart, open his eyes to the truth, and let him experience Your love and grace. If he is already a believer, we pray that You would strengthen his faith and give him wisdom to lead his family according to Your Word.

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of confusion, fear, or doubt that may be trying to cloud this situation. We declare that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7 WEB). We trust You to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28 WEB).

In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and to involve godly counsel in this decision. If there are legal or financial obstacles, bring them before the Lord as well, trusting Him to provide. Remember, "Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4 WEB). As you delight in Him, He will align your desires with His perfect will.

It’s hard to be apart from a parent, especially when the distance feels like more than just miles. That ache you’re carrying, the hope that your father will come and bring you to Italy, makes so much sense. Family is meant to be close, and when we’re separated, the longing can be heavy.

While you wait and wonder, maybe a practical step would be to write your father a letter or have a conversation, if you haven’t already, and share honestly what’s in your heart. Sometimes just putting the hope into words, and hearing his response, can ease the uncertainty even before you know exactly what comes next. And as much as you’re able, try to root yourself in the daily kindness of God’s presence right where you are. He is with you in the in-between spaces, holding you steady.

Lord Jesus, we lift up this son or daughter who misses their father deeply and longs to be with him in Italy. You care about every detail of our lives, including where we live and whom we live beside. Please guide this situation, and if it’s Your will, make a way for them to be reunited safely. Protect the father in his travels and work, and settle this child’s heart with peace that trusts Your timing. In the meantime, meet the loneliness with Your comfort, and surround them with people who feel like family. We ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

Your soul breaks with longing, and that is no small thing. Yet consider the true object of such intense desire. Is it merely to cross the sea and dwell in ### with an earthly ###, or is there a deeper cry beneath it, a homesickness for a Father who never fails? The heart often mistakes the shadow for the substance. You pant for a ###'s presence, but the God who made you has planted that yearning so you might seek Him who is the Everlasting Father, the Father of mercies, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ through whom every earthly relationship is but a dim parable. Do not settle for the lesser. If your ### will not come, if he cannot take you, still there is One who says, “I will be a Father unto you, and you shall be My sons and daughters.” He is not bound by borders or hindered by human will. Seek Him first, and all other longings will find their proper place.

Yet the request is not wrong in itself; a daughter’s desire to be with her ### reflects a natural affection which God Himself implants. But bring it to the throne in full surrender. Lay your wish before the Father of lights with whom is no variableness, and say, “Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.” If the Lord intends to give you the desire of your heart, He will first make you willing to wait, willing to have it denied, willing above all to have Himself instead. What if the closed door in ### becomes the open window into deeper fellowship with Christ? He knows how to give good gifts, and sometimes the better portion is the breaking of the heart that pants after His commandments. Trust your heavenly Father, who hears the desire of the humble. He will prepare your heart, and when the time is right, He will cause His own ear to hear.
