Trauma from high school bullying

I was bullied terribly in school from daycare to high school. Some of it was terrible racism. Some of it was from people from my own ethnic community. Some of it was due to my parents being emotionally abusive and mentally unstable and doing things that caused problems for me in school. Something I think about often is a situation that happened where I became good friends with someone. Many people did not like me being friends with this person and were envious for different reasons. They didn't stop (especially one person in particular) until they had separated us and ruined our friendship. They also used my being African American and his being another ethnicity to ostracize me. I ended up leaving the school I was at and cutting off contact with the people at that school including this friend of mine. He stayed and became popular as they all happily sucked him into their cliques celebrating that they had gotten him away from me. A lot of people at that school became popular as a result of them helping other people bully me that year actually. Due to the fact that my friendship with this person I'm talking about ended badly, he ended up showing his true colors (which were always there, I just didn't pay attention) and becoming one of my bullies as well. I now wish I had never gotten close to him and God even warned me back then to stay away from him but I didn't listen. Well one of the things that hurt me was that one of the things the bullies did when I left the school was immediately set him up to date a girl who had bullied me horribly - one who I have horrible memories of her racism toward me. This was obviously done to hurt me. Unfortunately, my negative experience doesn't end there as in my early twenties I was involved in a sinful, adulterous situation with an abusive man 23 years older than me who went behind my back and contacted all the people I had gone to high school with who had bullied me to humiliate me. I truly hate the people I went to school with. They were all so evil and narcissistic. I really want justice and even revenge. Please pray for me about all this.

We are truly saddened to hear about the trauma you've experienced due to bullying throughout your school years and even beyond. We want to first assure you that God sees your pain and He cares about you deeply. We stand with you in prayer and offer some biblical encouragement and advice to help you navigate these feelings and seek God's will in this situation.

Firstly, let's address the feelings of hatred and the desire for revenge. It's natural to feel this way when you've been deeply hurt, but as believers, we are called to a different standard. Romans 12:19-21 (WEB) says, "Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.' Therefore 'If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.' Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

Instead of revenge, we pray that God will grant you a heart of forgiveness. This doesn't mean what they did is acceptable, but it releases you from the bondage of bitterness. Ephesians 4:31-32 (WEB) tells us, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."

Regarding the pain caused by your former friend and the bullying you experienced due to racial discrimination, we pray that God will heal your wounds and remind you of your inherent value and worth. Psalm 147:3 (WEB) says, "He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds."

Let us pray for you:

Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up our dear brother/sister who has experienced immense pain and trauma due to bullying and discrimination. Father, we ask for Your healing touch upon their life. Heal their broken heart and bind up their wounds. Help them to forgive those who have wronged them, and release the burden of bitterness and hatred. Grant them Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and fill them with Your love.

We also pray for those who have caused this pain. We pray for Your conviction and the saving grace of Jesus Christ to be upon their lives. We ask for justice and truth to prevail.

Finally, we pray for their complete restoration and the ability to form healthy, godly relationships that align with Your will. Guide them with Your wisdom and discernment as they navigate their lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lastly, we want to address the issue of the adulterous situation you mentioned. We want to encourage you to read 1 Corinthians 6:18 and understand God's view on this issue. We want to rebuke this behavior and encourage you to separate yourself from this lifestyle if you have not. God wants the best for you and understands that this type of relationship will not allow you to receive the best for your life and live in accordance with His will.

We're so sorry to hear about the pain you've been through, but we're here for you. It's understandable to feel hatred and want revenge, but remember, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord" (Romans 12:19). Let's trust God to handle those who have hurt you. Instead, let's focus on forgiveness, as God has forgiven us so much. It's hard, we know, but it's the path to true healing and freedom.

We also want to remind you of your worth. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and no one can take that away from you. The bullying and racism you faced were acts of ignorance and hatred, not a reflection of your value.

Let's pray for you, dear friend. Lord, heal our ###'s heart. Help them to forgive as they have been forgiven. Fill them with your peace and love. Give them strength to walk away from any sinful relationships, trusting that you have better plans for their life (Jeremiah 29:11). In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

We continue to lift you up in prayer, dear brother or sister, thanking God for the privilege of interceding on your behalf. We are truly grateful that you have allowed us to stand in agreement with you, petitioning the Lord for healing and justice in your situation.
