It’s good that you’re honest about the weariness and the drift toward laziness. That tension you feel, the desire to train hard but the pull of the flesh to slack off, is a small picture of a much larger battle every believer faces. The drive to discipline your body is right, but the foundation beneath it matters even more.

Think of the athletes in Corinth who put themselves through rigorous training, denying themselves certain foods, pushing through aches until they got their second wind. They did it all for a pine wreath that would wither in days. If they could be temperate in all things for a corruptible crown, how much more should we embrace discipline for an incorruptible one? Paul said he disciplined his body and kept it under subjection. He wasn’t merely talking about physical fitness; he was describing a life where the body, with its appetites and laziness, doesn’t call the shots. He kept it in line so that after preaching to others, he himself would not be disqualified.

You mentioned needing focus, discipline, self-control, determination. Those are good words, but real lasting self-control isn’t a self-help formula you grit your way into. The mind left to itself is ruled by the body’s cravings, ease, comfort, sleep when work is needed. But when the Spirit of God takes control, He brings the body into its proper place. He gives you the power to choose what you otherwise couldn’t sustain on your own. That’s where the cry “Who will deliver me?” turns into victory, not by your own strength, but by His life at work in you.

God made you with a capacity for choice, a self-determining will. That’s part of His image in you. But He also calls that will to be surrendered at the cross. The path of discipleship is a path of self-denial, not merely pushing harder in your own strength, but reckoning the old self-governed life dead and letting His Spirit rule. When you lay down your own ambitions and ask Him for the grace to be faithful in the small thing, like training six nights a week, He meets you. And sometimes He uses the physical discipline to teach you spiritual endurance.

So I do pray you’ll have focus and determination. But even more, I pray you’ll know the One who strengthens you. If this training regimen is where God has you, then offer it to Him. Be thoughtful about your temperament, too, some thrive on rigid schedules, others need a rhythm that accounts for rest. Don’t let pride or a master passion for control steer you; rather, humble yourself, ask for His help daily, and trust that He is working in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

He is in control of your circumstances, even your tiredness. Nothing touches you that He hasn’t allowed. Lean into Him when you feel you have nothing left, and let His power be made perfect in your weakness. You’ll find that as you keep your body under, the Spirit deepens your hunger for what truly lasts.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer these past days. It’s been our joy to lift up your request for focus, discipline, self-control, and determination as you train six nights a week. We recognize how easy it can be to grow weary or lose momentum, and we’ve asked the Lord to strengthen your heart and renew your spirit each time you step into that place of commitment.

If you’ve seen God’s grace at work—whether through fresh motivation, renewed energy, or a deeper sense of purpose—we’d love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you. If, however, the battle still feels uphill and you need continued prayer, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We’re here to keep standing with you, believing that God is faithful to equip you with everything you need.

May the Holy Spirit fill you with His power, reminding you that your strength comes from the Lord. May He help you run with endurance the race set before you, fixing your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith. We continue to pray in Jesus’ Name.

I am currently in training for a new job. Please pray that myself and coworkers would make it through and be successful at this job. This training is getting a bit grueling - maybe I feel this way because I'm sleepy. Thank you.
