Toxic Work Environment. Performance Improvement plan for ###

Valoever

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for me that my manager sees the truth of people saying lies about my performance at work and trying to get me fired. I started a new job six months ago and was not given the proper orientation and the preceptor didn’t want to even precept me. I ask a lot of questions to learn and grow in my job. I’ve made minor mistakes that everyone has made at work but they have never been written up for them. I’m trying my best at this new job. My manager was aware that I was being bullied by other employees and when I emailed her to not schedule me to work with certain people because it was hindering me to learn and grow, I didn’t get a response from her and a week later I was placed on a performance improvement plan with accusations from certain employees that I made mistakes. During the whole 6 months I have never told by her that I need to improve in my performance and thought I was going good at my job. I really thought this manager had a good heart and did not expect this. My mental health has been affected and I feel like a failure. I go to work terrified to make any mistakes. I know in my heart and God knows that I’m trying my best with the limited orientation that I received. I left a toxic environment and thought this was not going to be the same. I’m so exhausted and tired of searching for a job that treats people fairly. I just want my manager to see that I am a hard worker and trying to learn this new job and for her to not believe the people that are bullying me. I pray that my manager takes away this improvement performance plan because it was to me when I spoke up about the bullying. I don’t like confrontation and I don’t want to escalate this to HR. I’m emotionally wrecked by all this and can feel I’m starting to go into a deep depression. I don’t know how people can be so mean to people who are doing their best and try to lie and ruin their career. Please pray for me that my manager is righteous and sees all the wrongdoing that is happening to me. Please pray that the bullying stops. Thank you.

We hear your cry for justice and mercy in this deeply painful situation, and we lift you up before the throne of grace with heavy hearts. The workplace should be a place of dignity, fairness, and mutual respect, yet Scripture warns us that we will face trials and persecution even in our labor. The apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:5-8, "Servants, be obedient to those who according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ; not in the way of service only when eyes are on you, as men pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men; knowing that whatever good thing each one does, he will receive the same again from the Lord, whether he is bound or free." Even in unjust circumstances, we are called to work as unto the Lord, but this does not mean we must endure ungodly treatment without seeking resolution.

First, we must address the spiritual warfare at play here. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and he often uses division, lies, and oppression to accomplish his purposes. The bullying, false accusations, and lack of support you’ve experienced are not of God. Proverbs 6:16-19 declares, "There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood; a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers." The Lord sees the injustice you are facing, and He does not take it lightly. We rebuke the spirit of deception over your workplace in the name of Jesus. We declare that the truth will be revealed, and the schemes of the wicked will not prevail.

Your manager’s failure to address the bullying and her sudden placement of you on a performance improvement plan after you spoke up is deeply concerning. It suggests either willful blindness or complicity in the ungodly behavior. Proverbs 31:8-9 commands, "Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are left desolate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy." While you prefer to avoid confrontation, silence in the face of injustice can enable further harm. We encourage you to prayerfully consider documenting every instance of bullying, false accusations, and lack of support. If you feel led, you may need to escalate this to HR or higher management, not out of vengeance, but to bring light to the darkness. Remember, "The righteous hate lies, but the wicked bring shame and disgrace" (Proverbs 13:5).

Your mental and emotional health are precious to the Lord. The enemy would love to see you crushed under the weight of depression and despair, but we declare that you are not a failure. Psalm 34:18-19 assures us, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all." You are doing your best in a flawed system, and God sees your efforts. We pray for healing over your mind and emotions, that you would experience the peace of Christ that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We also lift up your manager before the Lord. Proverbs 21:1 declares, "The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires." We pray that God would soften her heart, open her eyes to the truth, and convict her of any unrighteousness. May she see your diligence, your willingness to learn, and the unfairness of the accusations against you. We ask the Lord to remove the performance improvement plan if it is not just, and to expose any lies or ulterior motives behind it. Let her be a woman of integrity who stands for truth, even if it means confronting those who have acted wickedly.

For the bullies and those who have falsely accused you, we pray that the Lord would bring conviction and repentance. Matthew 5:44 commands us to "love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you." This is a difficult calling, but it is the way of Christ. We ask that God would either change their hearts or remove them from positions where they can cause harm. Proverbs 22:10 warns, "Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop."

We also want to encourage you to seek godly community during this time. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up." Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you, offer wisdom, and remind you of God’s faithfulness. If you do not already have a church home, we urge you to find one where you can be spiritually nourished and supported.

Lastly, we want to gently address the foundation of your faith. While your request is heartfelt, we noticed that you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9-10 declares, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Salvation is a free gift, received by grace through faith, and it is the foundation upon which we stand in every trial.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our sister who is enduring such injustice and pain in her workplace. Lord, You see every tear she has shed, every lie that has been spoken against her, and every moment of despair she has faced. We ask that You would be her refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Father, we rebuke the spirit of deception and oppression over her workplace. Let the truth be revealed, and let the schemes of the wicked be exposed and thwarted. We pray for her manager, that You would soften her heart and open her eyes to the truth. Remove any blindness or bias, and let her act with righteousness and justice.

Lord, we ask for healing over our sister’s mind and emotions. The enemy has sought to steal her joy, her peace, and her sense of worth, but we declare that You are the God who restores. Fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and remind her that her worth is found in You alone. Help her to cast all her anxieties on You, because You care for her (1 Peter 5:7). Strengthen her to endure this trial with grace and dignity, knowing that You are with her.

We pray for the bullies and those who have falsely accused her. Father, we ask that You would bring conviction to their hearts. If they are unwilling to repent, we ask that You would remove them from positions where they can cause harm. Let Your justice prevail, and let Your mercy triumph over judgment.

Lord, we also ask that You would provide our sister with godly community. Surround her with believers who can uplift her, pray with her, and remind her of Your promises. If she does not have a church home, we ask that You would lead her to one where she can be spiritually fed and supported.

Finally, Father, we ask that You would continue to work in her heart. If she has not yet placed her trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, we pray that You would draw her to Yourself. Let her experience the fullness of Your love, grace, and salvation. In every area of her life, may she walk in the victory that is found in Christ alone.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord. Amen.
