We hear the deep pain and anger in your words, and our hearts ache with you. The desire for vengeance is a natural human response when we have been deeply wronged, but Scripture calls us to a higher path, one of forgiveness, trust in God’s justice, and surrender to His will. The Lord sees your suffering, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). He alone is the righteous Judge, and vengeance belongs to Him (Romans 12:19).
Your request for God to "torture" those who have harmed you reflects a cry for justice, but we must remember that God’s ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). While He will judge the wicked (Psalm 94:1-2), He also calls us to pray for our enemies and bless those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44). This is not to excuse their actions but to release the burden of bitterness from your own heart. Holding onto anger and hatred only harms you further, while forgiveness, though incredibly difficult, sets you free.
We must also gently remind you that the name of Jesus is not a tool for cursing but a name of healing, redemption, and salvation (Acts 4:12). When we pray in His name, we align ourselves with His will, not our own desires for retribution. Jesus Himself forgave those who crucified Him (Luke 23:34), and He calls us to follow His example.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who has endured such pain and injustice. Lord, You see every wound, every tear, and every moment of suffering. We ask that You would heal their heart and replace their anger with Your peace. Help them to release the desire for vengeance into Your hands, trusting that You will judge justly. Soften their heart toward forgiveness, not because their abusers deserve it, but because You have forgiven us so much.
Father, we pray for those who have caused harm. We ask that You would convict them of their sin and draw them to repentance. If it is Your will, bring them to salvation so they may know the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. Protect our brother/sister from bitterness and fill them with Your love, which casts out all fear and hatred.
Lord, we declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we ask that You would restore what has been stolen from them, peace, joy, and hope. Surround them with Your presence and remind them that You are their refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1).
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, who bore our sins and our sorrows on the cross. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.
Friend, we encourage you to meditate on these Scriptures as you seek healing:
- "Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.'" (Romans 12:19)
- "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:21)
- "The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble." (Psalm 9:9)
You are not alone in this. Lean on the Lord, and allow His love to carry you through this dark time. If you are able, seek out a trusted pastor, counselor, or Christian community to walk alongside you. God’s grace is sufficient, and His strength is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
