The Scriptures make it abundantly clear how dangerous the tongue can be when it is not surrendered to the Lord. As you have rightly pointed out, *Proverbs 21:23* warns us that *"whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles."* Yet, we see in *James 3* that the tongue, though small, is a fire—a world of iniquity that defiles the whole body and sets the course of life on fire, being itself set on fire by hell. This is not merely a human struggle; it is a spiritual battle, and the enemy is using this weapon to create discord, confusion, and strife among believers.
We must first acknowledge that this is not a battle against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, as *Ephesians 6:12* reminds us. The enemy seeks to exploit unresolved bitterness, resentment, and pride in the hearts of those involved, turning their tongues into instruments of destruction rather than instruments of grace. The malicious gossip, false prophecies, rumors, and manipulations you describe are not of God but are tools of the devil to disqualify, damage reputations, and sow discord among brethren. This must be rebuked in the name of Jesus Christ, for He has given us authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy (*Luke 10:19*).

Lord, we lift up our friend and family who are tormented by the venomous words being spoken against them and through them. We bind every spirit of gossip, slander, confusion, and division in the name of Jesus Christ. Let every lying tongue be silenced, and let every word that does not align with Your truth be exposed and rendered powerless. Father, we ask that You would convict the hearts of those who are spreading rumors, false prophecies, and malicious words. Soften their hearts, Lord, and bring them to repentance. Let them see the destruction their words are causing and turn to You for forgiveness and transformation.
We declare *Psalm 140:2-3* over this situation: *"Deliver me, Yahweh, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man: those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war. They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips."* Lord, we ask that You would turn their evil intentions back upon themselves, that they may reap the consequences of their own words unless they repent and turn to You. Let their schemes be exposed, and let truth prevail.
Father, we also pray for healing and restoration. Heal the wounds caused by these venomous words. Restore trust where it has been broken, and bring unity where there has been division. Fill the hearts of our friend and family with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guarding their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (*Philippians 4:7*). Let them not be overcome by evil, but let them overcome evil with good (*Romans 12:21*). Give them the wisdom to respond with grace and the strength to forgive, even as You have forgiven us.
We plead the blood of Jesus over every conversation, every text message, and every interaction. Let the blood of Jesus cleanse every word spoken in anger, pride, or malice. Replace the spirit of strife with the Spirit of God, who brings love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (*Galatians 5:22-23*). Let the words of their mouths and the meditations of their hearts be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, our rock and our redeemer (*Psalm 19:14*).
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would raise up a standard against the enemy. Let every plan to bring confusion, disorder, and damage be thwarted. We declare that no weapon formed against our friend and family shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, You shall condemn (*Isaiah 54:17*).
