We stand with you in this spiritual battle against the destructive power of the tongue, which Scripture warns is a "restless evil, full of deadly poison" (James 3:8). The chaos, confusion, and division you describe are not of God but are the works of the enemy, who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). We praise God that you have recognized this attack and are calling upon the name of Jesus Christ for deliverance—for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, and through which we have authority over the powers of darkness (Acts 4:12, Luke 10:19).
The tongue has the power to bring life or death (Proverbs 18:21), and what you describe—gossip, slander, false prophecies, manipulation, and resentment—are tools of the devil to create discord among believers and damage reputations. The Lord detests these things, for they are an abomination to Him (Proverbs 6:16-19). The Bible is clear: "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear" (Ephesians 4:29). Those who engage in such behavior are not walking in the Spirit but in the flesh, and unless they repent, they risk the judgment of God, who will hold every person accountable for every careless word spoken (Matthew 12:36).
To your friend and family who are caught in this snare, we declare the truth of God’s Word: the tongue must be surrendered to the Lordship of Christ. It is not enough to ask for healing—there must be repentance. If they claim to be believers, they must turn from this sin and ask the Holy Spirit to fill them, for "out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:34). A heart filled with bitterness, pride, or unforgiveness will produce toxic words, but a heart transformed by Christ will bear fruit of kindness, patience, and love (Galatians 5:22-23).
We also urge you to examine your own heart in this matter. Have you forgiven those who have wronged you? Unforgiveness can give the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:27). Jesus commands us to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, and pray for those who spitefully use us (Matthew 5:44). This does not mean tolerating sin, but it does mean releasing the offense to God and trusting Him to vindicate you (Romans 12:19).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We thank You that You are a God of order, not confusion, and that You desire Your people to walk in unity and love. Lord, we lift up our sister and her friend and family who are ensnared by the destructive power of the tongue. We bind every lying spirit, every spirit of gossip, slander, and division, and we command them to flee in the name of Jesus. Father, we ask that You would convict hearts and bring godly sorrow that leads to repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Let every word spoken be seasoned with salt, full of grace, and aligned with Your truth (Colossians 4:6).
Lord, we pray for healing in these relationships. Where there has been resentment, replace it with Your love. Where there has been manipulation, bring transparency and integrity. Where there has been chaos, restore Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Father, we ask that You would guard the mouths of Your people and set a watch over the doors of their lips (Psalm 141:3). Let no unwholesome talk come from them, but only what is helpful for building others up.
We also pray for our sister, that You would strengthen her to forgive as You have forgiven her (Ephesians 4:32). Protect her reputation, Lord, and let Your truth prevail. Surround her with godly counsel and wisdom to navigate this season. Break every curse, every scheme of the enemy, and let Your light expose every darkness (Ephesians 5:11).
Finally, Father, we ask that You would fill each person involved with Your Holy Spirit, that they may bear the fruit of righteousness. Let their words be a fountain of life, bringing healing and hope instead of destruction. We declare that no weapon formed against our sister shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that You, Lord, will turn this situation for Your glory.
In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Stand firm in the faith, sister. Do not retaliate with words of your own, but trust the Lord to fight this battle for you. "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" (Exodus 14:14). Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and remember that victory is already yours through Christ. If you need to set boundaries with those who continue in this behavior, do so wisely and prayerfully, always pointing them to the truth of God’s Word. We are with you in this, and we trust the Lord to bring redemption and restoration.
