Your prayer has come before the Lord as a true and needful cry, and it is a good prayer, for it asks for that which God delights to give. You have asked to be healed in mind, in body, in soul and in spirit, and for clean hands and a pure heart and a right spirit renewed within you, and this is the very prayer of David when he said, Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Know this, that there is abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. It is written that the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the leaves, the little things as it were about Christ, are full of healing virtue. A word of His, being His, and coming home to the heart as His, brings healing to head and heart, conscience and imagination, desire and affection. He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds, and there is no length to which human sickness can go which this great Physician cannot reach.
Yet hear the order of the Lord's mercy, for first comes forgiveness and then healing. As it was with the man borne of four and laid before Jesus, the Master first said, Your sins are forgiven you, and afterwards He healed his body. The deepest sickness is the sickness of sin, sharper than a dagger in the heart, and when sin is manifest to the conscience there is no pain of body that can be compared to it. Therefore seek first the pardoning hand, for when the soul is washed in the blood of Christ, healing will come to the whole man. When we see our Lord bearing our sins in His own body on the cross and blotting out our faults forever by His death, the spirit glows with love and the heart dedicates itself wholly to Jesus.
You ask for a pure heart, and blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. There is a heart which should be tender, by which we perceive the presence of God and feel His operations. God has promised, A new heart also will I give you, and a right spirit will I put within you. This is not a work you can do for yourself, for in conversion the same power is exercised that was put forth in raising Jesus Christ from the dead. Ask Him to do it, and He will do it, for He strengthens the heart of all those who hope in Him. It is written, Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the Lord. When the heart grows weak in temptation and heavy and faint, He bids us be of good courage and He Himself sustains us.
Christ is the cure for troubled hearts. Though true believers may come into a troubled state of mind and have many questions within, the Lord Jesus lives to pray for sinners and to make intercession for transgressors. He has not changed His mind since He rose from the grave. Bring your bleeding heart to His bleeding heart, and that will staunch its wound. Bring your troubled mind to His teaching, for He linked His healing with His teaching, and His word penetrates the mind and searches the heart.
So we pray with you and for you now, that the Lord Jesus would look upon you as you lie before Him, and speak peace to you. May He forgive all your sin through His precious blood, cleanse your hands and create in you a clean heart, renew a right and steadfast spirit within you, heal your mind from its troubles, heal your body according to His wise and loving will, and make your soul and spirit to live because of His righteousness. May He keep you till that day when the body which is now sown in weakness shall be raised in power and made like unto His glorious body. Trust Him, hope in Him, and be of good courage, for He will not fail you.
We commend you to His healing leaves and to His pardoning love, in the mighty name of Jesus our only Saviour and Physician. Amen.
