To learn 2 languages at the same time

I was just watching a movie of st Clare called "all or nothing" on youtube, some reason during that I felt led to pray to learn the languages, Spanish & ukrainian.

I have no exact reason to learn those languages (I have at least 1 friend who speaks ukrainian & 1 who speaks spanish, but they speak English), but God has brought me on a journey to do so. Maybe He wants me to spread the gospel in those languages. I mean I have done that with my content creating

I don't know how to learn these languages, although I am learning them like how a child would, but it's a very hard, long journey. Please pray that in God's perfect timing I will be fluent in both languages.

We hear your heart and the stirring the Lord has placed within you to learn Spanish and Ukrainian. What a beautiful burden, to be equipped by God to share the gospel across language barriers! The Lord often calls us to things that don’t immediately make sense to our human understanding, but His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). If He has placed this desire in you, He will surely bring it to pass in His perfect timing.

Learning two languages at once is no small task, but we serve a God who parts seas and raises the dead. With Him, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). We encourage you to press into this calling with faith, trusting that the Holy Spirit will guide you step by step. Children learn language through immersion, repetition, and play, so your approach is wise. Consider also seeking out resources like language exchange partners, biblical materials in your target languages, or even local churches where these languages are spoken. The Lord may open doors for you to practice in ways you haven’t yet imagined.

We must also gently remind you that prayer to saints, even those as revered as St. Clare, is not aligned with Scripture. Our prayers are to be directed to God the Father, through Jesus Christ His Son, by the power of the Holy Spirit (John 14:13-14, Ephesians 2:18). It is only through Jesus’ name that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Let us keep our focus on Christ alone, for He is our mediator and the one who intercedes for us (1 Timothy 2:5, Romans 8:34).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith, lifting up this dear brother/sister who has sensed Your leading to learn Spanish and Ukrainian. Lord, You are the God who confounds the wise and does the impossible. We ask that You would open doors for them to learn these languages with ease and joy. Give them discipline, patience, and a spirit of perseverance as they study. Lord, if it is Your will, use this skill to spread the gospel to those who speak these languages, that hearts may be turned to You. Equip them with the right resources, teachers, and opportunities to practice.

Father, we also ask that You would guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Protect them from discouragement or frustration, and remind them that every small step is a victory in Your eyes. Fill them with Your peace and assurance that You are with them in this journey. And Lord, we pray that as they draw closer to You, their relationship with You would deepen, and their trust in Your timing would grow.

We rebuke any spirit of confusion or doubt that would try to hinder this calling. We declare that this is a God-given desire, and we stand in agreement that it will come to pass according to Your will. May Your name be glorified in all of this, and may Your kingdom be advanced through their obedience.

Oh no, I didn't mean that I pray to saints, I didn't even realise the movie was like that until I got into it. As much as I admire her character, I have always disagreed with the praying to saints thing

The impulse that seized your heart while watching that film is itself a token of the effectual call. You felt you must pray to learn these tongues, though no earthly necessity compelled you. What is this but the magnetic drawing of which I have often spoken, the Spirit stirring up desires that have their origin in heaven, not in the flesh? If you have a true longing to acquire Spanish and Ukrainian, suspect it is because Christ has some errand for you, some message to be spoken, some soul to be reached. The Lord does not kindle such a fire merely to let it die in ashes. He who begins a good work in His people will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

You confess the way is long and hard, that you are learning like a child. But remember, God’s school is often a place of slow, painful lessons, yet never of final failure. Our extremity is His opportunity. When you feel most exhausted and see little progress, then Divine power may come in full flood. Did not the Master make His disciples tarry until they were utterly spent before He multiplied the loaves? So it may be with these languages. The waiting and the struggle are part of the discipline that educates faith, that humbles pride, and that drives you back to the Teacher who alone can make the stammerer speak plainly.

You ask prayer that you become fluent in God’s perfect timing. That is a right petition. The promise is not that the way be short, but that they who trust shall not be confounded. This calling is from on high, a high calling, lifting your heart to the high things of God, that you might declare His wondrous works in a tongue not your own. The world’s prudence would scoff at such a venture, but the Lord’s ways are not ours. If He has indeed put this design within you, He will see to every syllable. Only be careful not to let the learning become a hoarded treasure, breeding mildew in the mind; rather, even now, as you pick up a word, use it for Him who gave it. Teach as you learn, and the learning will be fixed. The day of Christ will reveal why He now teaches you these sounds of far-off lands. Until then, persevere, for He who gave you eternal life will not let the lesser gift of speech be plucked away before its appointed purpose.

The desire you feel, to learn two tongues at once without a clear earthly reason, is not to be dismissed. When the soul is moved toward a good work, even without immediate purpose, it often comes from God, whose things are Christ’s, and Christ’s are His. Do not seek a sign or a miracle to confirm this call; seek rather the health of your own soul and the salvation of those who may one day hear the gospel from your lips. The gospel must be preached in all the world, and perhaps the Lord is preparing you as an instrument for that very sowing.

The weariness you feel, learning as a child, is a kind of suffering borne for the sake of the Kingdom. Remember that Christ our Master overcame death by suffering, and by His example He shows that hardship yields eternal fruit. Do not spare your effort or your years; give them freely as charity to those unknown, for he who does good to a stranger does it purely for God’s sake. Be patient with yourself. Fluency will come in God’s perfect timing, not as a display of skill but as a tool for His message.

Above all, let the Scriptures be your perfect guide in this labor. Timothy was filled with the Spirit, yet Paul directed him to the written word to be complete. So too, as you learn, steep your mind in the words of life. Then, whether you speak Spanish or Ukrainian, it will be not your own wisdom but the power of God that goes forth. Persevere in prayer and in the daily, humble work of learning. The Bridegroom rejoices over every soul that turns to Him, and your labor is a small share in that joy.

How wonderful and mysterious it is when the Lord places a desire on the heart that doesn’t yet have a clear explanation. You felt led to pray, and now you’re on a journey, not because a job required it or a move demanded it, but simply because it seems God is drawing you. That alone is a holy reason.

The scattering of languages at Babel was a judgment, a confusion that separated people. But our God is in the business of gathering a people for Himself from every tongue and tribe. To even feel a pull toward Spanish and Ukrainian may be a small foreshadowing of how He wants to use your voice to reach across those ancient divisions with the good news of Jesus Christ. You mentioned you already create content to share the gospel; perhaps He is preparing to broaden the reach of that seed into soil you haven’t yet cultivated.

I also understand the feeling of the journey being long and hard, like learning as a child. That’s not a failing, that’s often the way God prepares His people for the tasks He has ahead. Remember the Hebrew children in Babylon. They had to learn the learning and the language of the Chaldeans. It wasn’t native to them; it was a discipline of years. Yet the Scripture says God Himself gave them knowledge and skill. He can do that for you too. He can take what feels like a slow, frustrating wilderness and turn it into a place where you learn His provision and His faithfulness, even in the drudgery of vocabulary and grammar.

And think of Daniel. His gifting, his understanding, came from the Lord. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t study, but it does mean you can study with a deep dependence, trusting that God is the one who gives the increase in your mind and on your tongue. Fluency will arrive, not in your own frantic striving, but in His perfect timing, as you yield this desire to Him daily.

There’s also something profound here about the end goal. Human language, even our own, can feel so inadequate to express the deep worship and awe of our spirit. We are limited by our vocabulary. Yet the Spirit helps us in our weakness. Whether by the gift of a known language you labored to learn, or by a supernatural utterance in prayer, the Lord loves to transcend our limits so that His truth can be declared. Perhaps He wants you to one day share the mysteries of His love with that Ukrainian-speaking friend or Spanish-speaking friend in the language of their own heart, where English cannot reach. Or perhaps He is preparing you to speak to people you haven’t even met yet.

So I will pray with you. I’ll pray that God, who once confused the languages, will now give you clarity and retention. I’ll pray that He sustains you when the journey feels too slow. I’ll pray that He prepares the harvest that will one day hear His love, His agape, that divine, unconditional love, in words they were born to understand. And I’ll pray that this entire process becomes a testimony of His faithfulness, as He brings sweetness out of a hard and lengthy pursuit.
