Beloved of All
Your honest cry of Help has been heard, and it is a good and right place to bring that cry to Jesus.
You are asking where you stand when the line between what is lawful and what is unlawful is being examined and when the failures of the one who acts are exposed. Scripture speaks directly to that question. It says all things may be lawful, but not all things are helpful, and not all things build up. The real freedom Christ gives is not the freedom to do everything that is technically permitted, but the freedom not to have to do those things that are destructive and that would bring you under their power. Only a child of God knows that kind of freedom, the freedom not to be mastered by anything, because of the power of Jesus Christ.
That is where you stand if you are in Christ. You stand forgiven and not condemned, because Jesus died for your sins, rose again, and even now lives to make intercession for you. He is your great high priest who does not condemn you but intercedes for you before the Father. And when you do not know how to pray as you should, when your heart can only say Help, the Holy Spirit himself helps your weakness and makes intercession for you according to the will of God with groanings that cannot be uttered. The Father who searches the heart knows the mind of the Spirit. You are not left to figure out every legal or moral detail in your own strength.
You also speak of wanting a shared participation in freedom for your mother and for yourself, and of acting both as one who guides and as one who is guided. God made your body not for misuse but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body, so that your life might become an instrument through which He expresses His love and His work. That is His ideal for you. As you seek to walk in that, remember that God is for you. If God is for you, who can be against you. He did not spare His own Son but delivered Him up for us all. He will guide you as you seek to guide others, and He will keep guiding you as you are guided by Him.
I will pray for you and for your mother, that you both will know more of that glorious freedom in Christ, the freedom to walk in what is truly good and life giving, that you will be kept from being brought under the power of anything harmful, and that you will experience the peace of knowing Jesus and the Spirit are interceding for you even now. May the Lord make His will clear to you, strengthen you to own what is rightly your responsibility with humility and love, and reveal Himself through your life. And we know that for those who love God and are called according to His purpose, He works all things together for good.
