Tired and need a holiday

I haven't been to the seaside for seven years, nor have I had a holiday for two years. I miss the sea and travelling a little. Please pray in Jesus name that God provides me with an opportunity to rest somewhere else (near the sea or in the mountains). You can also pray for inner rest if you wish, but if you really want to pray with me, then pray for travel.Thank you!

We hear your weariness and longing for rest, both in body and spirit. The Scriptures remind us that our Heavenly Father knows our needs even before we ask, and He invites us to come to Him when we are weary and burdened, promising to give us rest (Matthew 11:28). It is good and right to bring your desires before the Lord, trusting that He cares for you and delights in providing for His children.

We also recognize the importance of rest as God Himself modeled. After creating the heavens and the earth, He rested on the seventh day, not because He was tired, but to set an example for us (Genesis 2:2-3). Rest is not a luxury, it is a necessity for our well-being, and God desires for you to experience His peace and renewal.

Let us pray together for the opportunity you seek:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is feeling weary and in need of rest. Lord, You see the longing in their heart for a time of refreshment, whether by the sea or in the mountains. We ask that You open doors of opportunity for them to travel and find the rest they need. Provide the means, the time, and the circumstances to make this possible, according to Your will. Even as we pray for physical rest, we also ask that You grant them inner peace and renewal of spirit. Let them feel Your presence with them, calming their heart and mind. Help them to cast all their cares upon You, knowing that You care for them (1 Peter 5:7). Father, we trust that You are a God who provides, and we believe that You will meet this need in Your perfect timing. May this time of waiting draw them closer to You, and may they find joy in the journey as they look to You for their strength. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this season, not only for the desire to travel but also for the rest that only He can provide. Sometimes, the Lord uses seasons of waiting to draw us deeper into dependence on Him. Psalm 23:2-3 says, "He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul." Even if the opportunity to travel does not come immediately, trust that God is working to restore your soul in ways you may not yet see.

If there are practical steps you can take, such as saving, planning, or seeking counsel, we encourage you to do so while trusting God to direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Keep your heart open to how God may choose to answer this prayer, whether through a literal journey or through His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We hear how tired you are, and how deeply you long for the sea and a chance to travel. Seven years is a long time to carry that ache for the coast, and two years without a holiday is draining. That kind of weariness settles into the bones, and it makes perfect sense that you're asking God to open a door.

Sometimes the waiting itself is its own kind of burden, watching time pass while the longing stays fresh. But your desire for rest and a change of scenery isn't frivolous. God made us embodied creatures who need rhythms of work and renewal, and He gave us a world full of places that can restore our souls.

What if this week you took one small, tangible step toward that opportunity? Even a modest one, looking at a map, researching a simple place you'd love to visit, or setting aside a little amount each week. It's not about making it happen in your own strength, but about positioning yourself to receive what God might provide, and letting hope have a practical outlet.

We're asking God to make a way for you, a real opening to rest somewhere that fills your senses again, whether by waves or mountains.

Lord, You see how worn down we can become, and You care about the simple things that bring us back to life. Please open a door for this person to travel and rest, and provide what's needed, time, resources, and the right opportunity. Until then, sustain them with Your presence and a quiet confidence that You haven't forgotten this desire. In Jesus' name, amen.

How the heart often echoes that plea for a change of scene, for the sight of the sea or the quiet of the mountains. The wearied frame and the overstrained mind long for the cool breeze and the sound of waves. Yet consider the greater journey, the flight of the weary dove over the flood, finding no place for the sole of her foot, until the hand of Noah pulled her in. The ark, like Christ, is the true place of rest. Before we seek a resting-place by the sea, let us be sure we are resting in Him. For His promise is not for a far-off holiday only, but for an immediate, present rest: “Come unto Me, and I will give you rest.” That is rest given freely, even while duties press and the heart is tired. He does not promise to make us lazy; labor is the very soil in which sweet rest grows. But He does promise to give His own peace, a fixedness of mind and a calm of soul that the world cannot bestow.

Now, the longing for a journey is not sinful. Even the Saviour went apart from the crowds. And it may be that the Lord, who knows the frail dust of our frame, will open a door for you to travel, to breathe the air of the hills or gaze out upon the deep. We join in asking Him to provide this opportunity, for He feeds the sparrows and clothes the lilies, and your health and refreshment are not beneath His notice. But remember, if earthly mountains cannot be climbed, if the way to the seaside remains barred, He can come over the mountains of difficulty like a young hart. It is easy for Him to bring inward rest where outward travel is denied. The rest He gives is not stagnation; it is the repose of a soul that has ceased struggling and has nestled in the will of God. Whether you are by the sea or in the narrow room, the waters of His love can flow, and the shadow of His presence can be a rock in a weary land. Trust Him for that now, and let the request for travel be held in a hand that submits to His timing and wisdom.

You speak of weariness and long for the seaside, for mountains and travel. I understand how the body grows tired and the heart yearns for a change of scene. Yet consider: the rest you truly need is not found in any earthly place. David sang of green pastures and still waters, but those waters refresh the soul that seeks God, not the body alone. The sea He made, and the mountains: they are good, but they cannot give the rest that remains for the people of God. That rest is inward, where Christ says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Do not imagine I dismiss your fatigue or your longing for the ocean breeze. The Lord knows our frame and sees our needs. But I would have you first seek the rest of a quiet conscience, the peace that comes from charity and a life ordered by His commandments. The broad way of constant amusement and ease often leads to greater weariness; the narrow way, though it seems hard, leads to life. If you travel only to escape, you will return to the same burdens. But if you find Christ in your heart, you carry rest with you wherever you go.

I will pray with you, as you ask. I lift your body and soul to the Father in the name of Jesus. Grant, O Lord, to your servant the rest that the world cannot give. Lead them beside the still waters of your Spirit. If it pleases you, open a door for wholesome travel and refreshment, that they might see your hand in creation and return strengthened to serve you. But above all, give them the inner stillness that trusts your providence, whether by the sea or at home. May they not set their hope on any holiday, but on the eternal rest where sorrow and sighing flee away. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

It sounds like your soul is deeply weary, and that longing for the sea or the mountains is a real cry for refreshment. There is a goodness in physical rest, in stepping away from routine and having your eyes filled with a different horizon. To miss that for seven years is a heavy thing, and it’s right to ask God to provide that opportunity for restoration.

Yet as I sit with your request, my heart goes back to what Scripture says about the rest God truly desires for His people. The kind of rest woven through the book of Hebrews is far deeper than a change of scenery. It speaks of a rest that Israel missed, even when the promise of a land was right before them. They failed to enter because of unbelief. The tragedy was not just a lost generation in the wilderness; it was that a promised rest was standing open, and they never stepped into it. And the warning comes down to us: let us fear lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of us should seem to come short of it.

This rest is not about sleeping in or a quiet beach. It is the rest of completion, the very rest God entered when He ceased from His works at creation. It is the rest that comes from finishing the work, not from exhaustion but from wholeness. And we enter that rest not by trying harder or finally getting a break, we enter by faith. For we which have believed do enter into rest. As long as you are relating to God through your own efforts, your own strength, your own frantic ability to hold things together, rest will always elude you. But when you look at the finished work of Jesus Christ and truly believe He has done it all, the striving can cease.

The difficulty is that we often say it’s hard to rest in faith. We think if God would just show us the plan, put the ticket in our hand, or clear the calendar, then we could relax. But the only place you will ever find rest is in faith itself. Sometimes God allows us to come to the end of our own resources precisely so we learn to rest on Him. When every other way is blocked and you have nothing left but to lean on His faithfulness, that is where you discover He is able to carry what you cannot.

So yes, I will pray with you for an opportunity to travel, to feel the salt air or see the peaks. God knows our frame and our need for physical renewal. But I will pray even more that you would enter the unshakable rest of God right now, in the middle of the tiredness. A rest where the turmoil quiets, where the fretting over what you cannot control gives way to a quiet confidence: the Lord will take care of it. Commit your way to Him and trust also in Him. His will is best, and He will bring it to pass. That is where the weary truly find rest. May you find your soul settling into that peace, whether you are at your kitchen table or standing by the waves.
