Tired and need a holiday

Your longing for the sea and the mountains after so many years without a break is something I hear deeply. The weariness of body and soul that comes from sustained labor and the ache for a change of scenery, for the salt air or the quiet heights, is real and worth bringing to God. He made both the crashing waves and the solid peaks, and He knows our frame; He remembers we are dust.

And yet there is a rest that runs far deeper than any coastline or mountain view could ever provide. Scripture speaks of a rest that remains for the people of God, a rest we enter not by purchasing a ticket or packing a bag, but by simple faith in Jesus Christ. Just as God finished His work of creation and rested on the seventh day, so Christ finished the work of redemption and now invites us to cease from our own labors and find our repose in Him. The physical holiday you crave is a shadow of a truer holiday, a holy rest that is always available to those who trust in His finished work. It is the rest of faith, where we stop trying to hold everything together by our own effort and learn to lean fully on Him who moves mountains.

Those mountains you picture are a fitting image. Faith can move mountains, the Lord tells us, not just obstacles of circumstance but the great inner walls of anxiety and exhaustion that hem us in. And when we feel our own resources are spent, when there seems to be no other way forward, that is often where God teaches us simply to rest on Him. It is not always comfortable at first, but it is the place where His power is made perfect in our weakness.

So I do pray with you for an opportunity to travel, to stand beside the sea or to breathe the mountain air. I ask the Lord to open a door, to provide the means and the time, and to make a way where there seems to be none. May He give you the gift of physical refreshment in a place of beauty and stillness. But even more, I pray that in the wait, and in the going, and in the returning, you would know the unshakable rest that is yours in Christ. The ark that weathered the flood came to rest on a mountain, and Noah’s very name meant rest. You are hidden in a greater Ark, the Lord Jesus, and no storm can disturb the peace He gives. Enter that rest by believing His promises again today, and whether your feet stand on sand, on soil, or on pavement, your heart will be kept in perfect peace.

We are so grateful you shared your heart with us and allowed us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for rest and renewal. These past days, we have lifted you before the Lord, asking Him to open doors for the opportunity you long for—a time of refreshment by the sea or in the quiet of the mountains. We have prayed that He would provide not only the means but also the perfect timing, trusting that He knows your need for rest even more deeply than you do.

If God has already answered this prayer in ways you can see, we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you! If the answer hasn’t yet come, or if it looks different than you expected, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue praying alongside you, believing that the Father who calls you to rest will be faithful to lead you there.

We also hold fast to the truth that true rest begins in Him, so we have asked the Holy Spirit to minister peace to your heart in the waiting. May He fill you with hope and remind you of His nearness, even now. Keep seeking Him, dear one, for He delights in meeting your needs according to His riches in glory.

In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
