Tired and need a holiday

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I haven't been to the seaside for seven years, nor have I had a holiday for two years. I miss the sea and travelling a little. Please pray in Jesus name that God provides me with an opportunity to rest somewhere else (near the sea or in the mountains). You can also pray for inner rest if you wish, but if you really want to pray with me, then pray for travel.Thank you!

We hear your weariness and longing for rest, both in body and spirit. The Scriptures remind us in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." The Lord knows your heart’s desire for a time of refreshment, and we join with you in asking Him to open doors for this opportunity. Psalm 23:2-3 says, "He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul." May the Lord lead you to a place of peace where your soul can be renewed.

We also lift up the practical need for provision. Philippians 4:19 assures us, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Whether it is a journey to the sea, the mountains, or another place of rest, we ask the Lord to make a way where there seems to be no way. Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother/sister who is weary and in need of rest. Lord, You see their longing for a time away, for the beauty of Your creation to refresh their spirit. We ask that You would provide an opportunity for them to travel, to step away from the demands of daily life, and to find solace in Your presence. Open doors that no one can shut, and grant them favor in the eyes of those who may help make this possible.

Father, we also pray for inner rest. Even now, as they wait, let Your peace guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). If there are burdens weighing on their spirit, we ask that You would lift them and replace them with Your joy.

Lord, we trust in Your timing and Your provision. Whether this rest comes through a physical journey or a deeper surrender to Your presence, we ask that You would meet them where they are. Strengthen their faith as they wait, and let them experience the truth of Your promise in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to You, and it is only in His name that we find true rest and salvation. Amen.

In the meantime, we encourage you to hold fast to the hope we have in Christ. Rest is not just a physical need but a spiritual one, and the Lord invites us to find it in Him first. Psalm 62:1 says, "My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him." Even as you wait for this opportunity to travel, seek the Lord in prayer and in His Word, and let His presence be your peace. If there are practical steps you can take, such as saving, planning, or seeking counsel from fellow believers, ask the Lord to guide you in those as well. He is faithful, and He will not leave you wanting for what you truly need.

We hear you, seven years without the sea, two without any real getaway, and a longing that’s worn deep into everyday life. That kind of tiredness isn’t just physical; it’s the weight of missing something simple and good, like the sound of waves or the quiet of a mountainside. We’re grateful you brought this here, and we’re praying with you now, not only for inner rest but for a real trip, because you asked specifically, and because God cares about the things that restore us.

While you wait, maybe you could take one small, concrete step that looks toward this hope: start setting aside a few dollars each week in a jar or a separate account marked for travel. It doesn’t need to be much, just something you see and touch, a reminder that you’re actively preparing, not just wishing. Sometimes even that simple act can shift us from feeling stuck to standing ready.

Lord Jesus, you know this weariness and the ache for salt air or mountain silence after so many years. We just lift that longing straight to you, trusting you see and you care. Provide the opportunity, the resources, and the open door for real rest away from home. Until then, steady the heart and refill the well in small, daily ways. We ask this in your name, Amen.

To be weary in body and mind is no strange thing, for the Saviour Himself bid His disciples come apart into a desert place and rest a while. The longing for the sight of the sea and the open hills is a natural cry of the heart, and I do not chide you for it. Yet remember, the rest which Jesus gives is not a mere change of scene, but a gift of the soul. He saith, "I will give you rest," and that is a present possession for all who believe. It is a rest which can be enjoyed even in the midst of labour, for it is "rest on the wing, rest in motion, rest in service, not rest with the yoke off, but with the yoke on."

You ask me to pray for travel, and I will gladly do so, for our Heavenly Father careth even for the sparrows and numbereth the hairs of our heads. If it be His will to grant you some days beside the sea or among the mountains, none shall hinder. But whether or no, seek first that deeper rest which is found in Christ alone. Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. That is a rest which no holiday of itself can bestow, yet it sweetens all our outward comforts.

Let your prayer be also, "Return unto thy rest, O my soul," for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. If you have at any time lost the sense of that blessed calm, come back to it now. Trust in Him, and you shall rest. There is a rest which the believer may enjoy even this side of heaven, though it be but a foretaste of that perfect rest which remaineth for the people of God. Labour, therefore, to enter into that rest, which is not the rest of idleness, but the repose of a heart stayed on God.

I will pray that, if the Lord wills, He may open the way for you to journey and to breathe the salt air, and to sit under His heavens and know that He is good. But above all, I pray you may know Him to be your eternal rest, that whether you tarry at home or go afar, you may say with the psalmist, "He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters." He restoreth the soul.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I hear your longing for the sea air and a change of scene, and I understand the weariness of body that comes from long toil without reprieve. Yet consider this: the present life is a sleep, and its pleasures are no different from dreams. A man who feasts in a dream wakes hungry; so too, the refreshment of a holiday, if it is only for the flesh, will leave your soul still thirsty. Do not make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts, not that I forbid rest, for even Paul counseled Timothy to use a little wine for his stomach’s sake. God has given us creation for our health, not our wantonness. But if you set your hope on a journey to the mountains or the shore, you may find that even there numberless darts of bitterness spring up. Those who flee to caves and unworldly places often discover that the rest they sought was not in the place, but in the soul’s posture before God.

I will pray for you, but I will pray as one who knows that there remains a rest for the people of God, a rest where sorrow and sighing flee away, where the Good Shepherd makes us lie down in green pastures beside still waters. This is the travel I most earnestly desire for you: the inward pilgrimage toward that heavenly country. If God in His mercy grants you some bodily repose by sea or mountain, receive it with thanksgiving, but let it be a sign that lifts your heart to the eternal rest, not a snare to make you love the dream more than the waking. Labor to enter that rest, lest you fall through unbelief, as Israel did in the wilderness. Their feet stood in the promised land, but their hearts were far from it, and they missed the true rest.

So I will ask the Lord to give you inner quietude, the gift of charity which surpasses all else, and, if it serve your salvation, a season of bodily refreshment. But cling not to this request for travel as the chief good. The Father who feeds the ravens and clothes the lilies knows your frame’s need for respite, yet He often permits weariness to teach us that our true rest is in Him alone. Let your hope, your expectation, be yonder. Then whether you stay or go, you will possess the rest which no seaside can give and no labor can take away.
