Tired and need a holiday

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I haven't been to the seaside for seven years, nor have I had a holiday for two years. I miss the sea and travelling a little. Please pray in Jesus name that God provides me with an opportunity to rest somewhere else (near the sea or in the mountains). You can also pray for inner rest if you wish, but if you really want to pray with me, then pray for travel.Thank you!

We hear your weariness and longing for rest, both in body and soul. The Scripture reminds us in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." The Lord knows your need for refreshment, and we join you in asking Him to open a door for you to experience the peace of His creation, whether by the sea or in the mountains.

We pray that God would provide not just the opportunity for travel, but also the means and the timing in His perfect will. Psalm 23:2-3 says, "He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul." May He lead you to a place of restoration, where your heart can be renewed and your strength refreshed.

Father, we ask You to remove any obstacles standing in the way of this rest. Whether it be financial constraints, time, or other responsibilities, we trust You to make a way where there seems to be no way. We also pray for inner peace, that even as You prepare this outward refreshment, You would calm any anxiety or restlessness in [their] spirit. Let this time of rest be a testimony of Your faithfulness and provision.

Lord, we thank You that You are a God who delights in giving good gifts to Your children. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, trusting that You hear and will answer according to Your perfect plan. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this with us. We hear the deep, simple longing in your words, seven years is a long time to be away from the sea, and two years without any real break can leave a person feeling hollow, not just tired. It’s not selfish to want a change of scenery, to watch waves or mountains and let your soul catch up with your body. That desire is human, and it matters.

We’re glad you asked us to pray with you for travel, and we will. There’s something about standing at the edge of the ocean or breathing mountain air that reminds us how small we are and how big God is, and sometimes we just need to feel that again. We’ll ask Him to open a door for you, whether it’s through an unexpected invitation, a financial provision, or a window of time you hadn’t seen coming. In the meantime, even as you wait, we’re asking for moments of genuine rest to find you right where you are, even a quiet half-hour to let your mind wander to shorelines without guilt.

Father, thank you for this person’s honesty and for the longing You’ve placed in them for beauty and rest. You know the exact stretch of coast or hillside that would bring them joy, and You see every barrier standing in the way. Please make a path. Provide the means, the time, and the right opportunity for travel, something they can look forward to and look back on with gratitude. Until then, steady their heart and give them small tastes of refreshment each day. In Jesus’ name we ask it, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The sea calls to you, and the mountains beckon, yet remember that it is not the place but the presence that gives rest. True rest to the mind of the child of God is rest on the wing, rest in motion, rest in service, not rest with the yoke off, but with the yoke on. You speak of being tired, and I know that service can weary the body, but in this service he does rest, like birds that sleep upon the wing. It is rest to labor for the Lord Jesus. You long for travel and a change of scene; this is not sinful, for even the Psalmist panted for fresh springs. Yet take heed: the soul that is truly alive to God will never be at ease entirely here, for their citizenship is in heaven, and they cannot rest. They desire a better country. So your very longing proves your spirit is not stagnant.

But what is this inner rest you mention almost as an afterthought? It is the first thing, the rest given freely when we come to Jesus, perfect and present, not delayed until death or a holiday. The world seeks rest in dry places and finds none, but we who have trusted have entered that rest. And what of travel? If it is granted, receive it as a mercy; if it is withheld, know that the Lord Himself is your abiding place. Ambition spoils rest; the constant greed for a change of circumstance can put quietness of spirit out of reach. Rather, learn contentment. Rest in the Lord, not merely in something about Him, but in His very self. A sight of Him with His face to the opposition, going through all with boundless courage, makes us feel we must go forward too, even till we enter into His rest.

You have not been to the seaside for seven years; two years without a holiday. I do not dismiss the weight of that weariness. The body needs respite, and it is not unspiritual to ask for it. Still, I would say to you: let your deepest longing be for Him. Oh that I knew where I might find Him! That is the cry of a soul that has tasted better joys. The stronger that longing becomes, the stronger the life from which it springs. Do you pant for God as the hart for the water brooks? Then He will satisfy you, whether by the sea or in the desert. Never rest until you find rest in Him, lest you make a blunder, a fatal blunder, and mistake a change of air for the repose of the soul. We who are often weary know that heaven’s rest will be seasonable indeed, where there are no Monday mornings, but eternal rest.

Nevertheless, take heart. If you belong to Christ, you cannot finally settle into the world’s ease, for grace has changed your nature. Retreat is impossible, not because we are strong, but because we are bound to Him by a myriad ties. Burn the boats; we will not be beaten. Press on, and in pressing on you shall find rest, a deep rest, a growing rest, an abiding rest, not only which you have found, but which you shall go on to find. Trust and you shall rest. This is my prayer: that God, who knows your frame and remembers you are dust, may grant you seasons of refreshment in green pastures, but that above all, you may know Him as your eternal rest, for this is His rest forever, and here He will dwell, for He has desired it.

I hear your longing for the sea and the mountains, but let me ask: when your soul seeks refreshment, why do you look to the shifting sands and towering rocks? True rest is not found in a change of place, however fair, but in the changeless God. Many run to the seaside seeking ease, yet though “numberless fountains of pleasures and mirth seem to spring up, yet are countless darts still more bitter brought forth.” The world’s beauty passes; its consolations leave the heart empty.

Look instead to the Shepherd’s promise: “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me beside the still waters.” There is a place where “sorrow and sighing shall flee away,” but it is not on any earthly shore. You are tired, and I would not deny your bodily need, pray that God may grant it if it truly serves your soul. Yet far more, pray to enter that unshakable rest which “remaineth for the people of God.” Do not set your hope on travel to refresh a weary spirit, for “what is the advantage of this way, when it ends in tribulation? And what is the injury of that straitness, when it leads to rest?”

Let your heart travel rather by the narrow road. If you can, with thanksgiving, accept a season of quiet wherever God has placed you, you will find more than any mountain peak can give. The covetous soul is never satisfied, even when he has every luxury; but the one who is content with Christ, though he be a servant, is the most enviable of all. So I do pray with you: may the Lord provide what you need for your body’s weariness, but may He chiefly grant you such inner stillness that you learn to say, “The Lord is my portion.” Let us labor together, not for the holiday that ends, but to enter that heavenly rest, lest we fall through unbelief as the Israelites did.
