Tired and need a holiday

I haven't been to the seaside for seven years, nor have I had a holiday for two years. I miss the sea and travelling a little. Please pray in Jesus name that God provides me with an opportunity to rest somewhere else (near the sea or in the mountains). You can also pray for inner rest if you wish, but if you really want to pray with me, then pray for travel.Thank you!

We hear your weariness and longing for rest, and we join you in bringing this heartfelt request before our Heavenly Father. The Scriptures remind us in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." You are not forgotten in your exhaustion, and we believe God sees your need for both physical and spiritual renewal.

We also lift up your desire to travel, especially to places of natural beauty like the sea or mountains. The Lord is the Creator of all these wonders, and He delights in giving good gifts to His children. Psalm 23:2-3 says, "He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul." May the Lord open doors for you to experience His restorative presence in a new setting.

Let us pray together:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, asking for Your provision and peace for our brother/sister. Lord, You know the weight of their weariness and the longing of their heart for rest. We ask that You would make a way where there seems to be no way, providing an opportunity for them to travel, whether to the sea, the mountains, or another place of refreshment. Grant them not only physical rest but also the deep inner peace that comes from abiding in You. Father, we trust in Your timing and Your goodness. Renew their strength as they wait on You, and let them experience the joy of Your presence wherever they go. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen."

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this season, trusting that He knows your needs even before you ask (Matthew 6:8). If financial concerns or other obstacles stand in the way, remember Philippians 4:19: "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Keep your heart open to the ways God may provide, whether through unexpected opportunities, the generosity of others, or even a change in your own circumstances.

Rest in the promise of Psalm 121:8: "Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forevermore." He is your Keeper, your Provider, and your Peace.

We don't think your longing is shallow, it's often through creation's beauty that God restores something weary deep inside us. We're glad you wrote.

While you wait for the doors to open, it might help to let yourself dream a little about where you'd love to go, even just gathering a few pictures or planning a simple route. That small act can feed hope and remind you that rest isn't a luxury but something God cares about for you. Father, thank you that you see this daughter who is worn out and missing the sea. You know the ache for salt breeze and wide horizons, the need to step away and be renewed. We ask you to open a way for her to travel and rest somewhere that brings her joy, whether by coast or mountain. Provide the time, the resources, and the right season. The sea calls to you, and the mountains beckon, but deeper still is that cry of the soul for rest. You say you have not journeyed to the coast for seven years, nor had respite for two, and you miss the salt air and distant horizons. I do not dismiss this longing. The body wearies, and change of scene can often refresh the jaded spirit. Yet let us first consider where true rest abides. It is a present rest, rest now; not rest after death, not rest after a time of growth and advancement, but rest given when we come to Jesus, given there and then. And it is perfect rest too. Have you that? Before we plead for earthly travel, let us be certain we possess the rest that remains for the people of God.

There is a rest of the mind, a fixedness of belief. This is the kind of rest the Lord Jesus Christ gives, rest of the deepest, truest kind, rest which the world cannot give and which the world cannot possibly take away. Oh, if all my rest is what He gives me, shall I not love Him? The soul first learns to rest in the finished work of Calvary, and then it discovers a second rest, the rest of a learner: “Learn of me, and ye shall find rest.” It is rest on the wing, rest in motion, rest in service, not rest with the yoke off, but with the yoke on. When we take His yoke voluntarily, the labor itself becomes a strange repose, like birds that sleep upon the wing. Yes, we may pant for the seaside, but the believer’s truest refreshment is found in doing the will of Him who made both sea and mountain.

But you have named your request plainly: pray for travel, for a holiday near the water or among the peaks. I will join you in this petition, yet with an eye to the one who holds the channels of provision. The spouse in the Song spoke of mountains dividing her from her beloved, difficulties great as crags. If the mountains can be climbed, we shall have to climb them, but if they are quite impassable, then the soul cries out, “Oh, that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down.” It is easy for Christ to come over the mountains for our relief. It is easy for the gazelle to cross the mountains, it is made for that end. So we may ask Him to bound over the hills of hindrance and grant you this blessing. He who knows your frame and marks the weariness of your mind can open a door no man shuts.

Let us therefore pray for inner rest first, and let that deep calm overflow into the request for outward change. Ambition spoils rest. The constant greed of avarice puts rest out of the question. But a childlike trust sweetly blends contentment with holy desire. You may cry, “Return unto thy rest, O my soul,” and at the same moment look to the Lord who abundantly blesses provision. I will ask the great Shepherd to lead you beside still waters, whether those of the actual sea or those of the Spirit’s peace. If He grants travel, go and mark the glory of His creation; if He withholds it, find a greater holiday in being forever with Him in spirit, for to be with Him is our eternal rest. Trust, and you shall rest, rest in His provision, rest in His timing, and rest in the perfect peace He alone can give.

You weary yourself with longings for the seaside and the mountains, as if a change of place could give rest to your soul. I do not condemn your desire for refreshment of the body, for even the Apostle permitted a little wine for the stomach’s sake and our often infirmities. But I fear that you seek in waves and mountain air a peace that only the still waters of Christ can give. For our present life is a sleep, and the things in it no different from dreams. When you wake from this brief slumber, what will the memory of a holiday profit you? Yet I know also that many hear these things with pain, and I do not speak without compassion.

I will pray with you, but let us first seek the rest that does not flee away when the bags are unpacked. “There remaineth a rest for the people of God,” and it is not found by ticket or journey but by a heart that ceases from its own works and trusts the provision of the Lord. He who fed the multitude when their own provisions were spent knows your need before you ask. Do not measure His care by whether He sends you to the coast; rather, “make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof”, not forbidding all care, but that care which kindles restless desire and sets the soul panting after mere change of scene. Seek first the charity which is the more excellent way, and these lower refreshments will be added or withheld in mercy.

If you truly desire my prayers, then let them be for what is needful: that God give you strength for your daily duties and, if it please Him, some season of bodily reprieve, but far more, that you learn to lie down in the green pastures of His word and be led beside the still waters of His Spirit, even now, in the room where you sit. There is a rest that makes all earthly travel look like the fidgeting of an infant, and it is won not by a change of air but by a changed will, resting in the unchangeable God. I shall ask Him to grant you whatever relieves your exhaustion without wounding your soul, and above all, to teach you this inner Sabbath. For when sorrow and sighing flee away in the kingdom to come, you will see how small a thing was the sea you longed to visit.

I hear the deep weariness in your words, seven years without the sea, two without a holiday, and I want you to know that your longing is not trivial. God formed us body and soul, and He knows our need for refreshment in creation. The seaside and the mountains are His handiwork, places where the rhythm of waves or the stillness of peaks can quiet our hearts. I will pray with you for an open door to travel, that He would provide a season of rest near the water or among the hills.

But as I bring that request before the Lord, my own heart keeps returning to a deeper truth: there is a rest that only faith can enter. The weariness you feel is not just physical; it reaches into your spirit. And the promise of God still stands, there remains a rest for His people, a resting place not dependent on scenery or circumstances. It is found in Jesus Christ. He is our true Sabbath. His finished work on the cross means we can cease from our own strivings, from the endless effort to manage everything, to earn what is already given.

I know how hard it is to rest in faith. We often say, “If I could just see what God is doing, if I had a clear sign, then I could relax.” But the rest He offers comes not from seeing, but from trusting. It comes when we let go of our own resources and lean completely on Him, like the ark finally resting on the mountains of Ararat after the long flood. That vessel carried not only Noah but the hope of a new world, and God timed its grounding to the very day. He has not forgotten you. Your season of waiting is not without purpose.

So I pray that God will make a way for you to stand by the shore or gaze at the mountains, to feel the breeze and remember His power. But even now, before any trip, I ask Him to teach you the secret of entering His rest right where you are. Sometimes He brings us to the end of our own strength so we learn to say, “I rest on You. This situation is bigger than I can handle, and that is exactly where You want me.” In that surrender, peace can settle in, whether you are at home or away.

May the Lord open the path for travel, and may you soon breathe salt air or mountain air as a gift from His hand. And in the meantime, may you find your spirit resting in Christ, who moves mountains, both the literal obstacles and the weight of weariness, so that you can know His quietness today.
