Tired and need a holiday

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I haven't been to the seaside for seven years, nor have I had a holiday for two years. I miss the sea and travelling a little. Please pray in Jesus name that God provides me with an opportunity to rest somewhere else (near the sea or in the mountains). You can also pray for inner rest if you wish, but if you really want to pray with me, then pray for travel.Thank you!

We hear your weariness and longing for rest, both in body and soul. The Scriptures remind us in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." You are not forgotten in your fatigue, and we join with you in bringing this request before the Lord in the mighty name of Jesus.

Father God, we come before You as Your children, lifting up this dear one who is in need of rest and refreshment. You know the depths of their heart and the weariness they carry. Lord, You are the God who leads us beside still waters (Psalm 23:2), and we ask that You would open a door for them to experience the rest they so desperately need. Whether by the sea or in the mountains, provide an opportunity for them to step away from their daily burdens and find renewal in Your presence. We trust in Your provision, for You are Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who provides (Genesis 22:14).

We also pray for inner rest, for peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). May they find comfort in knowing that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Even as they wait for this opportunity to travel, fill their heart with Your peace and assurance that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of exhaustion or discouragement that may be weighing them down. We declare that they are not abandoned, and Your plans for them are plans for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Strengthen their faith as they wait on You, and let them experience the joy of Your presence even now.

We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus, the One who calms the storms and brings true rest to our souls. Amen.

We hear how much you’re longing for a real break, the feel of the sea or mountain air, the chance to step away and catch your breath. Seven years is a long time to miss a place that refreshes you, and going without a holiday at all for two years only makes that ache sharper. It’s not a selfish desire. Our own bodies and souls tell us we need seasons of rest and delight, and we’re glad you shared this with us.

We’ve learned that even those of us who spend our lives caring for others cannot last long without intentional moments of disconnection. Many of us are not great at pausing until we’re forced to. So we want to affirm that this longing is legitimate and that we’ll join you in asking God to make a way. We’ll pray not only for the trip itself but for whatever you can do with the resources and time you already have, even if a whole holiday feels far off, a small step can sometimes carry us through.

Maybe one practical thing you could do this week is set aside a small amount, even the cost of a coffee, into a “rest fund.” Or take an afternoon to research one affordable spot that fits your dream, just to let your heart wander a bit. That isn’t pretending you’re already there; it’s an act of hope, and God often uses our small steps of faith as a runway for his provision. Keep your eyes open for unexpected opportunities too, a friend with a cabin, a work shift that opens up, a special fare. We serve a God who knows how to give good gifts, even when they feel delayed.

Now we pray with you.

Lord Jesus, you see this weariness and this honest, simple desire for rest by the sea or in the hills. You know the weight of long seasons without a true pause. We ask you to open a door, provide the time, the resources, and the right opportunity for a genuine getaway. While the plans are still uncertain, pour your peace into the waiting and give real strength for each ordinary day. Renew their spirit, and grant that soon they will stand where the water meets the shore or where the air is crisp and quiet, and give thanks. Amen.

Rest is a present gift from Christ to all who come to Him, not a distant promise merely, but a rest given now, perfect in its nature. Yet it is not the rest of idleness, for in man’s mortal frame he must do or endure, else his spirit stagnates. There is a rest you have already if you have believed; and there is a rest you find as you learn of Him, taking His yoke upon you voluntarily. True rest is rest on the wing, rest in motion, rest in service, not with the yoke off, but with the yoke on. It is in labor for the Lord Jesus that the soul finds deep repose.

You miss the sea and the mountains, and your body cries out for change and refreshment. This longing is not sinful; the frame needs renewal. But remember, the rest Christ gives is first an inward rest, rest about everything, rest at all times, rest in every part of your nature. If He grants you a season by the waves or among the hills, it will be sweet because He gives it. Yet even without it, you may enter into His rest now, for we who have believed do enter into rest. Trust, and you shall rest. Rest in the Lord Himself, not merely in His provisions, but in Him. Ambition and avarice spoil rest, but contentment with your earthly lot brings quiet.

Your desire is before Him. Pray, and if it pleases Him, He will open a door to the seaside or the mountains. But do not rest your soul upon that prospect. Rest now where God rests, in His Son, in His Church, in His finished work. That rest is perfectly consistent with labor; it does not degenerate into laziness. It is a rest you may safely have and come to no harm thereby. Return unto your rest, O soul, for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The weariness you describe is one I have seen in many faces here in Antioch, and I do not dismiss it lightly. You long for the sea and the mountains, and after seven years, the desire for rest and a change of scene is natural. Yet I must ask: when you think of that holiday, do you imagine it will finally give your soul the peace it craves? Pause and consider. Those who escape to the mountains and the caves, those who cast off the burdens of the city, do they not often find that the darts of bitterness follow them? The world offers countless fountains of pleasure, yet they spring up alongside sorrow. A seaside retreat may refresh the body for a season, but it cannot quiet the restlessness within unless the heart is first anchored somewhere deeper.

There is a rest of which the Scriptures speak: “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me beside the still waters.” That is not merely a place on earth; it is the soul’s repose in the Shepherd. And the Apostle urges us: “There remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God.” This rest is entered not by a change of geography but by a softened heart, by faith that does not harden itself in the cares and fatigue of life. I will pray that God, in His kindness, opens a door for you to travel and to see the works of His hands, the waves or the peaks, if it be for your good and His glory. But I must also pray, and I beg you to pray with me, that you find what the world cannot give: the inner stillness that comes from compunction, from tears that wash the soul clean and unite it to Christ. Even in the midst of a bustling city, such a one dwells as in a desert, seeing no one, clinging to God alone. That is the holiday that never ends.

So go, if the Lord provides. Rejoice in His provision and return refreshed. But do not let the longing for travel become a demand that wearies you more. Covet earnestly the best gift, the more excellent way: charity, and the peace that comes from living in that love. Then whether by the sea or at your daily labor, you will find that sorrow and sighing flee away.

I hear the weariness in your words, and your longing for a change of scenery is completely understandable. God fashioned us to need times of refreshment, and there is something uniquely restoring about the sea and the mountains. I will gladly pray with you for an opportunity to get away and travel.

But as I lift that request, I am also reminded that the deepest rest we crave isn’t tied to a location. The Scriptures speak of a rest that God has prepared for His people, a rest we enter by simply believing that Jesus has finished the work for us. So often we exhaust ourselves trying to arrange our own relief, thinking, “If I could just see a clear way, I could relax.” Yet the only place our souls truly settle is in faith. It is not in our own efforts, but in yielding to His perfect care, that we learn to rest even when our circumstances feel turbulent.

That doesn’t mean your desire for a holiday is misplaced. Remember the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat after the long storm. God marked the very day. He cares about the tangible moments of stillness and beauty we long for. As you yearn for the sea and the mountains, know that He can make a way even when it seems beyond your resources. Let me pray with you now for that provision, and for the inner rest that sustains you either way.

Lord, you see this tired heart and the simple, honest wish for a time away, near the water or among the peaks. Please open a door for travel, and supply what is needed for genuine physical refreshment. But even more, teach us to enter your rest so that, wherever we are, our spirits find their stillness in you. Help us to cease from our own striving, as you ceased from your works, and to trust that Jesus has already carried everything. May this season, whether at home or away, become a place where faith grows strong enough to move any mountain. Amen.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with your heartfelt request, sharing your longing for rest and the joy of travel after so many years. It has been our privilege to stand with you in prayer, lifting up your desire to experience the peace of the seaside or the quiet beauty of the mountains once again. We have asked our Heavenly Father to open doors of opportunity for you—to provide not just the means, but the perfect timing for a time of refreshment and renewal.

If God has already answered this prayer in ways you’ve seen or even in ways yet unseen, we would love to celebrate His faithfulness with you. Please share a praise report so we can rejoice together in His goodness. If the answer hasn’t come yet, we want to keep standing with you. Consider posting this request again so we can continue to intercede on your behalf, trusting that the Lord hears and cares deeply about the desires of your heart.

May He grant you His peace that surpasses all understanding as you wait, and may He fill you with hope as you look to Him. We pray that He would guide your steps, provide every need, and lead you to a place of rest that renews your spirit. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
