Those suffering of abuse, domestic violence

We join our hearts with yours in this prayer, and we thank God that He does hear the cries of the helpless just as Psalm 10 says. The Lord does not turn away from those who suffer, but He is close to the brokenhearted and He is a stronghold to those who fear Him.

God made the home to be a place of safety and love, where a husband and wife live in a lifelong covenant and where children are protected and nurtured. Violence, abuse, and threats of death are evil and contrary to His design. To compel or to crush those who live under the same roof, to use strength to harm rather than to protect, is a grave sin and brings judgment, not blessing. The Scriptures show us that virtue, like a kind mother, places us in safety, while vice is treacherous and full of danger. And we see how Christ Himself, even on the cross, showed tender care for His mother and entrusted her to protection, teaching us to give more than ordinary honor and protection to mothers who have borne so much for their children.

So we pray with you now for all who are suffering abuse and domestic violence, and especially for this single mother and her child who lives under a death threat after escaping.

Father in heaven, we thank You that You hear the cries of the helpless. In the name of Jesus Christ, Your only Son through whom alone is salvation, have mercy and draw near. Be a wall of protection around this mother and her son and around every woman and child who is afraid in their own home. Rescue them from the hand of the violent, frustrate the plans of those who would do harm, and let Your justice restrain evil.

Grant them courage where there has been fear, and strengthen their faith to find You as their refuge. Provide safe shelter, wise counsel, faithful friends, and resources that truly help, so that they and their children may live in peace and health and grow in the knowledge of Your grace. Heal the wounds in body and soul that violence has left, and let children who have seen terror find comfort and stability in Your love. Bring helpers, authorities and Your church, to stand with them and not to look away.

We also pray for those who have done violence, that You would bring them to repentance and to true faith in Christ, turning from cruelty to a new life.

We thank You in advance for what You will do, and we thank You for every time You have already kept these precious lives. Keep them alive, keep them safe, and lead them into a life of wholeness and hope in Christ. Amen.
