We hear your desire for things to go your way this year and for an increase in self-love, and we want to approach this with both compassion and biblical truth. First, let us affirm that God has good plans for you—plans for hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). However, we must examine what it means to "love yourself" in a way that aligns with Scripture.
The Bible does not command us to love ourselves more but rather to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39). This implies that self-love is already present in humanity, often to an unhealthy degree. What we are called to is *godly* self-care—stewarding the body, mind, and spirit God has given us—not self-centeredness or pride. True fulfillment comes not from focusing inward but from surrendering to Christ and seeking His will above our own.
If you are struggling with self-worth, remember that your value is found in being fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14) and redeemed by the blood of Jesus (1 Peter 1:18-19). Loving yourself in a biblical sense means seeing yourself as God sees you—His beloved creation, called to walk in holiness and purpose.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, recognizing that all things are possible through Christ who strengthens us. Lord, we lift up this dear one who desires to see Your favor and goodness in their life this year. We ask that You would align their heart with Yours, that they would seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Father, where there is a struggle with self-worth or identity, remind them that they are Your handiwork, created for good works in Christ (Ephesians 2:10). Help them to see themselves through Your eyes—redeemed, loved, and called for a purpose.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of pride or self-centeredness that would seek to elevate the self above You. Instead, fill this heart with humility, gratitude, and a deep desire to serve You and others. May they find their joy and satisfaction in You alone, for You are the source of all good things (James 1:17). We declare that this year will be a year of walking in Your will, of growing in faith, and of experiencing Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
We pray against any plans or desires that do not align with Your Word. If there is any area of their life where they are seeking their own way rather than Yours, reveal it to them, Lord, and give them the strength to surrender it to You. May they trust in You with all their heart and lean not on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word daily, allowing His truth to shape your thoughts and desires. Seek His will in prayer, and surround yourself with fellow believers who can walk alongside you in faith. Remember, the goal is not for things to "go your way" but for *God’s* way to be accomplished in and through you. When we delight ourselves in the Lord, He promises to give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4)—not because we demand it, but because our hearts begin to align with His. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).
