The Holy Spirit is all about truth: the Spirit inspires the truth that is taught, empowers the truth that is lived, and brings about the true fruit in our lives. Jesus makes four powerful claims about this Spirit of Truth. First, the Friend that God will send to us is the Spirit of Truth. Second, the unbelieving world cannot receive the Spirit of Truth. Third, the Spirit of Truth, the Friend, will be in Jesus' followers; Jesus will not leave his followers orphaned. Fourth, the Spirit of Truth's presence is a reminder of Jesus promise to come back for us and bring us home. The difference between a person trying to be good and someone who follows Jesus comes back to this one crucial issue: the Spirit lives in those who belong to Jesus (Romans 8:9), and that's the Truth!
Prayer
Father, thank you for your Presence, the Spirit of Truth, who lives inside me. So many of my blessings and so much of my effectiveness as a follower of Jesus are tied to the Spirit's influence on my emotions, thoughts, words, and behaviors. Conform me to your truth by the influence of your Spirit of Truth. In Jesus' name I ask this. Amen.
