We are saddened to hear about the situation in Singapore and the increase in suicide cases. We believe that God instituted governments to maintain order and justice, as it is written in Romans 13:1-4 WEB:
"Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same, for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn't bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil."
While we are instructed to pray for those in authority, we must also remember that God can turn the hearts of kings, as it is written in Proverbs 21:1 WEB:
"The king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the rivers of water. He turns it wherever he desires."
We should pray that God changes the hearts of the current government officials to govern with wisdom, justice, and compassion. We should also pray that if it is God's will, He would raise up godly leaders to replace those who are incompetent or unjust.
Let us pray:
"Father, we come before You, lifting up the nation of Singapore and its government. We ask that You would change the hearts of the current leaders, giving them wisdom, compassion, and a desire for justice. We pray that You would expose any corruption or incompetence and that You would raise up godly leaders to take their place if that is Your will. We ask that You would comfort those who are suffering due to unjust policies and that You would provide for their needs. We pray for a spiritual awakening in Singapore, that many would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and IJN. Amen."
We must also remember that while we are to pray for godly governance, our ultimate hope is in Christ and His kingdom. As it is written in Psalm 146:3-6 WEB:
"Don't put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish. Happy is one who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in Yahweh, his God: who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever."
We encourage you to continue praying for Singapore and its government, but also to share the hope of the gospel with those around you. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved. For this was said by Peter in Acts 4:12 WEB,
"There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"
May you be reminded of the hope that we have in Christ and may you share that hope with others.
