GENESIS 15: 16-33 [ AND THE LORD SAID, SHALL I HIDE FROM ABRAHAM THAT THING WHICH I DO ?]
And the men rose up from thence and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them on the way.
vs. 17. And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
vs. 18. Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
vs. 19. For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgement; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him.
vs. 20. And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
vs. 21. I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
vs. 22. And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom : but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.
MY COMMENT :
Sodom and Gomorrah had fallen into grievous sin, that is what the Word is saying, The Sin of Sodom and Gomorrah of sodomy had brought a loud cry to the Lord. There is a limit as to how far we can go playing games with God. We did not speak the Word and set the rules of nature. We did not set boundaries of normal sexual relations. God set these boundaries, when men and women become a law unto themselves, the judgement is eminent. Sin is sin and it will be judged. The Book Of Romans chapter 1 says that men left the natural use of the woman and began to sexually crave for one another !! this is sin. Romans 1 : 24- 27. " wherefore God gave them up to uncleaness through the lusts of their own hearts, and to dishonour their own bodies between themselves.
vs. 25. Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the creator, who is blessed for ever Amen.
vs. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections : for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
vs. 27. And likewise also the men, leaving nthe natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
vs. 28. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
MY COMMENT:
The people had crossed the line and now there awaited the a judgement. Those who double in sin should not think that God will not eventually act. He will act, the Remedy is nto repent, make a complete turn around and begin to serve God.
GENESIS 18: 23 And Abraham drew near, and said, wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked ?
vs. 24. Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein ?
vs. 25. That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that be far from thee: shall not the judge of the earth do right ?
vs. 26. And the LORD said, if I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
MY COMMENT:
Here Abraham was Interceding for the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. He was pleading with God to revert His judgement of destroying these cities if only he could st least find fifty righteous in the city of Sodom. But there were none. I think Abraham must have thought of his nephew that at least he could have preached righteousness to the inhabitants of these cities but he had not. However Abraham kept on praying and pleading with God for mercy.
vs. 27. And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD, which I am but dust and ashes:
vs. 28. Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for the lack of five ? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
vs. 29. And he spoke unto him again, and said, Peraventure nthere be forty found there, And he said I will not do it for the forty's sake.
vs. 30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there.
vs. 31. And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD, Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.
vs. 32. And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry and I will speak this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
vs. 33. And the Lord went his way as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: And Abraham retuned unto his place.
MY COMMENT:
The Bible said and the Lord went his way after he had left communing with Abraham, this means that had Abraham continued to plead God would have eventually agrred to save the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. We must never think that we have done all we can in praying for our loved ones the cities we live in and the nation. God will hear our prayers of intercession as we plead with him for those who are lost and live in sin. Paul said Pray without ceasing. This means do not ever stop to pray until the answer comes. Nevertheless the prayers of Abraham saved his nephew Lot but his wife perished for she looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. It does not pay to look back, this means desiring to go go back to our old ways. we will likewise perish if we do not genuinely repent. Let us continue praying and never give up. Life and death lays in our prayers.
