Today's Encouraging Words

The Power Of Influence

9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:9-11)

Most of us do not have the power and influence that celebrity status brings, but we can have the touch of God's fingers within our sphere of influence. What we do or say can make a difference when it is filled with love, because that means it is filled with God's power.

Paul urged the Thessalonians to encourage, to help, and to be patient. This is also God's will for us today. Giving encouragement can be as simple as a few spoken words… "I like the way you teach my children"; "I like the way you run your business"; "That was a great dinner"; "You played a great game"; "I appreciate what you did for me"; or "You kept your faith when the going was rough."

Just by showing your support to someone, you can be the one to open the door to a person's dream. If you see someone with a great talent, point it out and lift it up. If you’ve learned something, share it. In doing so you will find that the good you give comes back to you. But, don't let that be your only motivation for encouraging someone else… Do it because it's the right thing to do.

First Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us how: "Be joyful always; pray continually; and give thanks in all circumstances." By following the guidance of scripture as part of our daily routine, we can make encouragement a lifelong commitment.
