“Break up your unplowed ground
and do not sow among thorns.
4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord,
circumcise your hearts,
you people of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem,
or my wrath will flare up and burn like fire
because of the evil you have done—
burn with no one to quench it."
Jeremiah 4:3 NIV
This is our Lord's warning prior to striking Judah and Israelite countries with disasters for forsaking God's Lordship. All through the Bible, God makes clear that he is the same God today, as he was in the past.
In the Book of Proverbs, Jesus says
"I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep." Proverbs 8:27 NIV
There was no other human being when God created the heavens and earth. In fact, it was God's first creation.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." Genesis 1:1-2 NIV
So at the inception, only "...the Spirit of God" existed. God's Spirit "...was hovering over the waters." Thus, when the Book of Proverbs at 8:27 says "I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon..." The he, it speaks about is God Himself. God is the ultimate power. So we have to accept that besides God, He existed in the Holy Trinity. The only other person in the Holy Trinity was Jesus. So Jesus has been here since the beginning. History books relegates him to 33 years on earth, but that doesn't mean that Jesus' spirit did not exist from the beginning.
Thus, it is clear that the God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament. Since this is the case, then it ought not be surprising that the same God who freed the Israelites out of Egypt is the same God that rules over our world today.
So if God was upset and put forth His wrath against the Israelites and the Judeans for forsaking His Lordship, why would He not be disdainful for the state of our world today. Satan is worshiped, Jesus is sidelined, and the Bible, the world's most ancient history book, has been taken out of schools.
Yet, for some reason, we forget about God's wrath and wonder why so many worldwide atrocities occur. The answer is clearly delineated in the Bood of Jeremiah. If God came to earth and made himself known to a child, Jeremiah, and touched Jeremiah's tongue and sent him throughout Israel and Judah to warn the people of our Lord's coming wrath, then the same Lord from then would take out his wrath against the world today.
The Book of Jeremiah explains God's goal from the very beginning. In Jeremiah 1:16, God tells Jeremiah the following:
"I will pronounce my judgments on my people
because of their wickedness in forsaking me,
in burning incense to other gods
and in worshiping what their hands have made." NIV
I understand that the world isn't going to want to believe this because it messes up their idea of God as being a cheerful suburban father who goes with the flow. But God makes clear from the beginning that it is His laws that rule despite satan's fight against him.
Thus, I pray that our Lord Christ Jesus through the Holy Spirit will illuminate our hearts so that we pray to Him and honor and praise our Lord during the crisis that the world is currently experiencing. Not only the current pandemic, but in all world problems. I know our Lord is in control. I also know that the devil rises up at each chance he gets to try to destroy our Lord's kingdom. But at the end of the day Christ Jesus shall triumph and since I've become a child of God, I will always honor, praise, and worship Him over the popularity race of the world.
