Thank you for sharing so honestly about this hard month and the anxiety you have been carrying. I have prayed for you and your son and I want you to know God sees exactly where you are.
Being a child of God does not mean we are kept from problems or battles, and you are feeling that reality right now. Scripture never promises a life without hardship, but it does promise that the Lord is with His people in the hardship and that He is able to work through very difficult circumstances to provide for them. Just as God moved an entire empire so that Mary and Joseph would be in Bethlehem to fulfill what was spoken about where the Messiah would be born, He is sovereign over the details of your life too, over housing and finances and school and every need that feels so heavy right now. Nothing is too small or too large for Him to arrange for your good.
I prayed that the Lord would quiet your anxious heart and give you His peace as you bring every concern to Him, and that He would provide for you day by day, including those little blessings and helps that remind you He has not forgotten you. I asked Him to keep you in your apartment and to continue to sustain you through your studies, through financial aid, through child support and through your son's disability payments. God knows these practical needs and He is able to open doors, to move on the hearts of others, and to bring the divine help and intervention you have asked for. I also prayed that His protection would be around you both in this holiday season, that as Psalm says His angels would encamp around those who fear Him.
Your son is a precious gift. Jesus once placed a little child in the midst of His disciples and taught that we must become humble like a little child to enter the kingdom, and that the greatest in the kingdom are those who humble themselves in that way. He also said that whoever receives one such little child in His name receives Him, and He warned us to take care that we do not despise or look down on one of these little ones, because their angels always behold the face of the Father. Your son's kind, sensitive, sweet and pure heart is beautiful to God, and his simple trust is exactly the kind of faith Jesus treasures. How terrible it would be for anyone to try to tear down that faith, and how blessed is your desire to protect it.
I prayed that God would guard that tenderness and purity in him, that He would keep his heart soft toward Him and that your son would continue to know how to hear the Lord's voice. One of the best ways to nurture that is to help him move beyond memorized words into speaking to God from his own heart, telling Jesus what he is thankful for and what he needs in his own simple language. Scripture speaks of a mother who prayed for years for a child and then gave that child back to the Lord, bringing him to serve Him, and God honored that dedication. In that same way you can daily place your son in God's hands, asking God to fulfill His purpose for his life.
The Bible says to train up a child in the way he should go, and that phrase also carries the idea of training according to his own way, recognizing that each child has his own personality and bent. Your son's sensitivity is part of how God made him. Training him will take steady, loving and patient instruction, much like teaching a child to walk. You expect stumbles and you gently lift him up, you guide and correct with love so that foolishness is put far from him and wisdom takes root. God will give you wisdom for that daily work as you keep pointing him to Jesus.
May the Lord draw you both closer to Himself in the weeks ahead, keep you close to each other, and show you in very tangible ways that He is providing, protecting and leading you step by step.
Father, I lift this dear mother and her precious son to You in the name of Jesus. You see her anxiety about finances and her home and her schooling. Be near to her, let her feel Your presence, and give her Your peace that passes understanding as she casts her cares on You. Provide for every need, sustain her housing, her studies, her support and her son's needs, and send the help You know is needed at the right time. Place Your hand of protection over her son, keep his heart tender and pure, guard his faith in Jesus, and teach him to know Your voice and to walk with You all his days. Give his mother wisdom and patience to train him according to how You have made him. Surround them both with Your care and Your angels and make this season one of Your nearness and provision. Amen.
