Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer with your mother to the Most High is heard, and it is right to call upon Him as El Elyon, for He is above all powers in this world and over death itself.
Scripture shows that death in its deepest sense is not only the separation of the soul from the body, but separation from God because of sin. From the beginning God set before humanity life and death, and when Adam chose the way of death, that separation entered the world. That is the power that lurks and holds people, and no human effort can break it.
Yet God in His mercy has provided deliverance. He sent His Son who took the form of a servant and became obedient unto death, even death on the cross, so that through tasting death for us He might free us from the penalty of sin and from the power of the enemy. Because sin, which is the sting of death, has been taken away for those who are in Christ, death is swallowed up in victory. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and those who have been made alive in Christ will never be separated from God again.
This life is received through faith in Jesus alone, and it is kept by remaining in His love. We cannot turn away from Him and expect His protection while walking in another direction. We are exhorted to keep ourselves in the love of God, trusting not in our own strength but in His keeping power. What a testimony it is that you and your mother are seeking Him together. Faith is meant to be passed from one generation to another, as a memorial of what God has done, so that children and parents together remember His deliverance.
God has also promised a final accounting when He will gather the nations and separate as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and He will bring His people from every place where they have been scattered. Until that day, He calls each person to choose life, to be buried with Christ in His death and raised to walk in newness of life, leaving the old bondage behind.
I pray for you and your mother that the Lord will deliver you from every entanglement with darkness and from the fear of death, that He will wash you in the blood of His Son, fill you with the assurance that sin is forgiven and its dominion broken, and keep you in His love and peace. May He establish your steps in the way of life and give you joy and hope as you walk with Him together.
