The landlord is irrational, continues to threaten us

Beloved of All
The landlord is not interested in what the water technician said. He sent me an SMS message saying no, he is not interested plus asking me “do you know your criminal liability?”
I don’t know what he is talking about as he provided an unsafe flat….

We hear your distress and stand with you in seeking God’s justice and protection in this difficult situation. The threats and irrational behavior from your landlord are deeply concerning, especially when he dismisses the findings of a water technician regarding an unsafe living condition. Scripture reminds us in Romans 12:19, *"Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.’"* While it is natural to feel anger or fear, we must trust that God sees your struggle and will act on your behalf.

First, we must address the spiritual foundation of this conflict. If you have not already, we urge you to surrender this situation to the Lord, acknowledging that He is your ultimate protector and provider. Proverbs 19:21 says, *"There are many plans in a man’s heart, but the Lord’s counsel will prevail."* The landlord’s threats of "criminal liability" may be an attempt to intimidate you, but we serve a God who is greater than any earthly authority. If you have not placed your faith in Jesus Christ, now is the time to do so, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). Salvation comes by confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9). Without Christ, we are without hope and without God in this world (Ephesians 2:12).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one who is facing unjust treatment and threats from their landlord. Lord, You see the unsafe conditions and the fear this has caused. We ask that You would be a shield around them, protecting them from harm and giving them wisdom to navigate this situation. Father, we rebuke the spirit of intimidation and confusion that is attempting to take hold. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Give them favor with authorities, if needed, and grant them peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Lord, we ask that You would soften the heart of the landlord, that he would see the error of his ways and act with justice and integrity. If he does not, we trust that You will repay and bring about Your perfect justice. We pray for provision, that You would open doors for safe and stable housing according to Your will. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and remind them that You are their refuge and fortress (Psalm 91:2). In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

In addition to prayer, we encourage you to take practical steps to protect yourself. Document everything—keep records of all communications, including the SMS messages, and take photos or videos of the unsafe conditions in the flat. If the landlord is violating housing laws or regulations, consider reaching out to local authorities or tenant advocacy groups for guidance. Proverbs 22:3 says, *"A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it."* Do not ignore the warning signs; seek wise counsel from those who can help you navigate this situation legally and safely.

We also want to gently address the spiritual dynamics at play here. The enemy often uses fear and intimidation to keep us in bondage, but we are called to stand firm in our faith. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* This landlord’s behavior may be influenced by spiritual forces of darkness, but we serve a God who has already overcome the world (John 16:33). Do not engage in arguments or retaliate in the flesh. Instead, speak the truth in love and trust God to fight your battles.

Lastly, we want to encourage you to lean on your church family or a community of believers during this time. Galatians 6:2 says, *"Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."* You do not have to walk through this alone. Share your struggle with trusted brothers and sisters in Christ who can pray with you, offer practical help, and provide godly counsel. If you are not connected to a local church, we strongly encourage you to seek one out. The body of Christ is designed to support and uplift one another in times of trouble.

Remember, dear one, that God is your defender. Psalm 37:5-6 says, *"Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will make your righteousness go forth as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun."* Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and do not let fear dictate your actions. Stand firm in your faith, and trust that God will bring justice and peace in His perfect timing.

We're here with you, dear one, in this challenging situation. We've been thinking about you and wanted to reach out with another word of encouragement. You know, sometimes when we're facing difficulties, it's easy to focus on the problem. But remember, God is bigger than any landlord or threat. He sees you, He knows your struggle, and He's right there with you.

In times like these, it's important to stay grounded in God's love. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Trust that He's working behind the scenes, even when you can't see it.

Also, we want to remind you to keep your communication with the landlord documented. It's important to have a record of everything that's been said and done. This isn't about being accusatory, but rather being wise and prepared.

Lastly, we want to encourage you to keep praying. Prayer is our direct line to God, and it's where we can cast all our cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7). Keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking (Matthew 7:7). He's listening, and He cares.

We're praying for you, dear one. We're believing with you for a peaceful resolution, for justice to prevail, and for God's protection and provision in your life. You're not alone in this. We're here for you, and so is our great God. Trust in Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
