Elijah was a man, indwelled with the Spirit, prepared with prophetic gifting, chosen, and sent by God. He should have been seated at the king's table, placing his special orders with the king's chefs, and partaking in gourmet meals. Howbeit, because Queen Jezebel and King Ahab didn't like the prophetic warning, which God gave Elijah to deliver to them, he was chased out of the palace-house, from of the kingdom, and even from the very nation, amid threats of death from Jezebel. But, I didn't run - When God says go, I will go. Nevertheless, Just as Jesus would to be forced to endure, Elijah not only had to sleep outside, he had to eat what the ravens brought. Like Elijah, I give thanks for the food, and at God's instruction, I eat.
Even after the days of Elijah, Jesus predicted how His disciples, not "should be;" but rather "would be" mistreated in the same manner.
Because King Ahab and Queen Jezebel ignored God's warning, choosing instead to continue doing what God hated, not only were they, their kingdom and nation destroyed; but, likewise destroyed, were all who followed their leadership.
God knows His own, and we heed His voice.
But never forget the warning: "Today you must listen to his voice. Don't harden your hearts against him as Israel did when they rebelled." (Hebrews 3:15)
The Holy Spirit has been giving me so much to unpack lately, and I can hardly wait to share it, particularly with the cities who have ears to hear. This comparative story is but one example of God's unchanging Word.
